Production on HBO’s “Game of Thrones” spinoff series “A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms” has started in Belfast, Ireland. Five actors are joining the cast: Finn Bennett (“True Detective: Night Country”), Bertie Carvel (“The Crown“), Tanzyn Crawford (“Tiny Beautiful Things”), Daniel Ings (“Sex Education”), and Sam Spruell (“Fargo“).
Sarah Adina Smith (“Lessons In Chemistry,” “Hanna”) will direct three of the six episodes for Season 1. Executive producer Owen Harris will direct the other three.
The first season of “A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms,” based on George R. R. Martin’s novella “The Hedge Knight,” follows Ser Duncan the Tall (Peter Claffey) and his young squire, Egg (Dexter Sol Ansell). Their adventure happens 100 years before “Game of Thrones” and 100 years after “House of the Dragon.” They go to a competition and meet Prince Aerion Targaryen (Finn Bennett), Prince Baelor Targaryen (Bertie Carvel), Prince Maekar Targaryen (Sam Spruell), Ser Lyonel Baratheon (Daniel Ings), and a puppeteer named Tanselle (Tanzyn Crawford).
Here’s the series’ full description: “A hundred years before ‘Game of Thrones,’ two unlikely heroes travel through Westeros. Ser Duncan the Tall is a young and brave knight, and his squire, Egg, is small but smart. The Targaryens still rule the Iron Throne, and dragons are not yet forgotten. These friends face big adventures, powerful enemies, and exciting challenges.”
