In a future scene, we see Dr. Shaun Murphy and the other staff.
Warning: *This article has spoilers for The Good Doctor series finale.*
The emotional finale of ABC’s long-running show, The Good Doctor, aired on Tuesday after seven seasons. It ended with a heartfelt goodbye, just as fans expected.
Viewers quickly find out that Dr. Aaron Glassman’s brain cancer is much worse. He only has 3 to 6 months to live.
Dr. Shaun Murphy, played by Freddie Highmore, is very sad, and so are his coworkers. Shaun doesn’t want to give up and keeps looking for a cure. But Glassman wants to spend his last days doing what makes him happy, not going through tough treatments that probably won’t work.

At the same time, Dr. Claire Brown (Antonia Thomas) comes back to the hospital and gets a bad infection after her own cancer surgery. Shaun keeps looking for a way to treat her too, and he finds one, but the FDA says no to his plan.
Shaun tells Glassman, “The FDA didn’t approve our treatment, but I’m going to give it to her anyway, and then I won’t be a doctor anymore.” Glassman doesn’t agree with Shaun’s risky choice and decides to do it himself. Before that, they share a heartfelt moment and say they love each other.
A few years later, we see Shaun, Lea (Paige Spara), and their two kids who are now old enough to go to school. Shaun is giving a TED Talk to a big audience. He shows the names of 1,524 patients he helped save and credits Glassman for believing in him when others didn’t.

Shaun introduces himself as the chief of surgery. He remembers Glassman saying, “We will be a better hospital for hiring him. We will be better people for hiring him,” and then slamming the desk to show he meant it.
Shaun shares that Glassman’s message to others was, “Don’t be mean!” He pounds his fists on the table to emphasize this.
Shaun also talks about the new Dr. Aaron Glassman Foundation for Neurodiversity in Medicine, which he runs with Claire. She’s in the audience with her boyfriend Jared and their daughter.
Dr. Audrey Lim, who was deciding between staying at the hospital or leaving for Boston, is seen packing her bags. Others with the logo “Surgeons for a Better World” are waiting by the door.
In the final moments of The Good Doctor, the characters hug each other after reuniting. Shaun leaves with his family, carrying the memory of Glassman. Discover more entertainment news on our website by clicking here.
