Jeremy Allen White praised his “beautiful” and “smart“ co-star Ayo Edebiri after she directed an episode of their show, The Bear.
At 33, Jeremy talked about Ayo’s skills at the season three premiere in Los Angeles. He told Variety,
“It was awesome. I wasn’t acting on her first day; I was hanging out on set… She did an amazing job.”
“She’s a beautiful and smart actress. She’s also a great director,” Jeremy added.
Jeremy plays chef Carmen ‘Carmy’ Berzatto, and Ayo plays his talented assistant, Sydney Adamu.
Ayo, 28, told Deadline how emotional she felt directing her first episode.
“I cried,” Ayo said about reading the script for the first time. “It was written so beautifully. I felt so moved and touched that Chris Storer wanted me to direct it.”
“I could picture it as soon as I read it,”
Ayo added
Ayo directed the sixth episode of season three, called “Napkins.”
Season three of The Bear premiered on Thursday on Hulu, and all 10 episodes are available.
Despite fans loving their chemistry, Jeremy and Ayo recently denied that their characters would become romantic.
At a press conference on Monday, when asked if their characters’ professional relationship would turn romantic, Jeremy and Ayo said, “No.” Jeremy added, “There was no talk about any romantic storyline between Carmy and Sydney.”
Jeremy and Ayo won top awards at the 2024 Golden Globes, SAG Awards, Critics’ Choice Awards, and Emmys for their amazing performances in the hit FX series.
In season three, Carmy, Sydney, and Richie (played by Ebon Moss-Bachrach) work hard to turn The Bear, their beef stand, into a fine dining restaurant. They aim for culinary excellence while trying to keep the business running.
“Their quest for culinary excellence will push the team to new heights and test the bonds that hold the restaurant together,” according to FX. “Our chefs have learned that every second counts, but this season, we’ll see if they can make it to tomorrow.”
Christopher Storer created The Bear and has written and directed most of its episodes.
