Hulu has launched its new animated series Solar Opposites, featuring voices from Thomas Middleditch, Alfred Molina, and Tiffany Haddish. Created by Justin Roiland and Mike McMahan, the show offers a comedic take on sci-fi. It centers on a family of four aliens who move to a suburban neighborhood after their home planet, Shlorp, is destroyed. As they try to fit in on Earth, the kids deal with school bullies and making friends, while their parents repair their damaged ship and manage the Pupa, a quirky yellow blob with the power to destroy the world.
Solar Opposites mainly focuses on the alien family, but it also features many familiar voices for other characters. The show often includes guest stars, from comedians to famous actors. Here’s a sneak peek of the cast of Solar Opposites, including the main Martian family and other characters in their world.
Justin Roiland as Korvo
Justin Roiland plays Korvo, one of the adult aliens in the cast of Solar Opposites. Korvo hates Earth and wants to fix the ship so he can leave. Roiland is famous for his roles in Adventure Time and Rick and Morty, the latter of which won him a Primetime Emmy. He has also voiced characters in Disney Channel shows like Fish Hooks and Gravity Falls.
Thomas Middleditch as Terry
Thomas Middleditch voices Terry. Terry is the easygoing, fun-loving half of Terry and Korvo. He isn’t interested in the mission and just wants to enjoy life on Earth, meet people, and watch bad movies. He seems a bit clueless about the Pupa, even though he’s supposed to be an expert. However, after he makes Korvo in “The Lavatic Reactor,” he manages to take care of the house and the replicants by himself. So, he’s probably more lazy than witless.
Middleditch has appeared in films like The Wolf of Wall Street, Godzilla: King of the Monsters, and Zombieland: Double Tap. He also stars in HBO’s Silicon Valley as Richard Hendricks.
Mary Mack as Jesse
Mary Mack voices Jesse, one of the alien kids. Jesse is gentle and enjoys life on Earth. She was created by cutting off a piece of Terry and growing it in soil. Mack is a comedian known for her appearances on Conan and Last Call with Carson Daly. She has also acted in indie films like Twin Cities and Special Moments with Oksana.
Sean Giambrone as Yumyulack
Sean Giambrone plays Yumyulack, Korvo’s replicant. Yumyulack is bitter and dislikes Earth, just like Korvo. Giambrone is well-known for playing Adam Goldberg on The Goldbergs. He also appeared as Ron Stoppable in the TV movie Kim Possible and voiced characters in Big Hero 6: The Series and Harley Quinn.
Funyulack Voiced by Sean Giambrone
Funyulack is the friendly version of Yumyulack that Jesse creates in the pretend-deck. He is overly nice to his sister, almost to the point of being creepy. Funyulack might have a dark side like Yumyulack. It’s unclear if he’s dead, even though he’s just a virtual creation.
The Pupa Voiced by Sagan McMahan
The Pupa is key to the mission. When it grows up, it will destroy and recreate Earth to look like Shlorp. It’s unclear if this will harm Terry, Korvo, Jesse, and Yumyulack. The Pupa has strong telekinesis and telepathy powers. It enjoys eating gooblers and candy, though both make it throw up.
Tiffany Haddish as Computer
Aisha is the Shlorpians’ talking computer. She has a lot of attitude and runs the Pretendo-Deck. Tiffany, a comedian is best known for her work in Night School, Girls Trip, and Keanu. She also stars in the TBS comedy The Last O.G.
P.A.T.R.I.C.I.A. Voiced by Wendi McLendon-Covey
P.A.T.R.I.C.I.A. is a robot created by Korvo to dislike man caves. She’s programmed like classic sitcom moms, so she criticizes men like Korvo and is caring towards Terrys. Currently, she’s in a shipping crate buried in the Shlorpians’ backyard, along with a robot that looks like Ted Cruz. She might come back to cause some trouble.
Wendi McLendon-Covey is an American actress and comedian best known for her role as Beverly Goldberg on the TV show The Goldbergs. She has also starred in Bridesmaids, Reno 911!, and Cougar Town. She also voices Nancy Green in Big City Greens the Movie: Spacecation.
Nanobot Man aka Mr. Nanobots as Alan Tudyk
Nanobot Man is a group of trillions of nanobots that runs for president of the homeowners’ association against Terry and Korvo. Alan Tudyk is known for his diverse roles in both TV and film. He’s famous for voicing K-2SO in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story and King Candy in Wreck-It Ralph. Tudyk has also starred in Firefly as Wash, and appeared in Grimsburg, Deadwood, Suburgatory, and The Tick. His film credits include A Knight’s Tale and 28 Days. He also voices Cadmus WondLa Season 1.
Red Goobler Voiced by Justin Roiland
Most gooblers are purple and harmless. But the red goobler is very dangerous. It causes extreme stress to its creator, aiming to kill them eventually. Korvo gets very stressed, so he ends up with a red goobler. Terry and Korvo catch it, but it escapes without Korvo knowing. The red goobler might come back to try and harm Korvo again or fill his DVR with annoying shows.
Vanbo Voiced by Jason Mantzoukas
Vanbo is a Shlorpian who, in an alternate timeline, could have lived with Terry and Korvo. He’s a jerk and is disliked by everyone. He might have a true crime podcast, but this is uncertain. He could also just be a figment of Terry and Korvo’s imagination from the pretendo-deck. Mantzoukas is well-known for his roles in The Good Place, Parks and Recreation, Invincible Season 2 and Brooklyn Nine-Nine.
The Duke Voiced by Alfred Molina
The Duke leads the Wall in the first season but is replaced by Tim at the end. We don’t know where he came from or why he ended up in the Wall. After being removed, he escapes to the outside. This means he might come back and cause trouble for Tim. Molina is famous for his role as Doctor Octopus in Spider-Man 2. He’s also known for his performances in The Instigators, Raiders of the Lost Ark, Boogie Nights, and Chocolat.
Cherie Voiced by Christina Hendricks
Cherie was a Benihana waitress who Yumyulack shrank because she gave him shrimp despite his request for no shrimp. She’s skilled in fighting and uses her Benihana skills to help Tim overthrow the Duke. Cherie is kind-hearted and plans to tell everyone how to escape the Wall. However, Tim wants to stay in charge, so he kills her and dumps her body outside.
Hendricks is best known for her role as Joan Harris in Mad Men. She has also appeared in movies such as Drive and The Neon Demon.
Tim Voiced by Andy Daly
Tim was a regular guy who got shrunk by Yumyulack because he wore a red shirt. Yumyulack had already shrunk people in every other color and wanted to complete his collection. In the Wall, Tim becomes a strong leader and leads the resistance against the Duke.
Daly voices Two-Face in the current Harley Quinn animated series. He has also voiced various characters in Bob’s Burgers and American Dad and made guest appearances on Veep.
