When Creature Commandos started on December 5, 2024, I didn’t know what to expect? But it didn’t take long for the Creature Commandos finale to pull me in. Directed by James Gunn and produced by Peter Safran, it introduced a team of super-monsters unlike anything we’ve seen before.
By the time the finale rolled around on January 9, 2025, I thought I was ready for anything—but I wasn’t. The last episode delivered twists I never saw coming and an ending I can’t stop thinking about. If you don’t believe me you can catch the finale on HBO Max.
In this article, I’ll talk about everything that happened in the Creature Commandos finale, explain some key moments, and share what this means for season two. Let’s break it all down!
What Went Down in the Creature Commandos Finale?

The Creature Commandos finale begins with the Creature Commandos members marching toward Princess Ilana Rostovic’s castle. Their mission? Eliminate her and stop a potential WWIII foretold by Circe’s ominous vision. Sounds straightforward, right? Not quite.
The Bride leads the team through the castle, taking down guards as they go. Thanks to Clayface, Rick Flag Sr., who was in a coma, wakes up. He tells Amanda Waller and John Economos that Professor MacPherson wasn’t dead—Clayface had replaced her. Waller and Economos try to stop the team, but it’s too late.
Nina is sent to assassinate Ilana during her morning swim. The scene is tense and heartbreaking. Ilana kills Nina in self-defense, leaving The Bride furious and devastated. This moment hit me hard. Nina’s death wasn’t just a loss for the team—it was personal for The Bride.
Then the big twist comes. Ilana had been manipulating everything. She seduced Rick Flag Sr. to use him against Circe. When that didn’t work, she recruited Clayface to impersonate MacPherson. This was all part of her plan to create confusion and avoid being killed. But The Bride figures it out.
In the final confrontation, The Bride confronts Ilana. She doesn’t just kill Ilana to stop World War III. She does it because Ilana killed Nina, her only real friend. It’s a chilling and emotional moment that wraps up the mission in the most personal way.
Creature Commandos Finale: Ending Explained

⚠️SPOILER ALERT⚠️
The Creature Commandos finale shows that Circe’s vision was real. Ilana was a dangerous dictator who would have destroyed the world. Here, the Bride’s decision to kill her wasn’t easy, but it was necessary. This reveal about Ilana’s manipulations adds a lot of depth to her character. She used every trick she had—Clayface, seduction, and even lies—to protect herself. But in the end, The Bride outsmarted her.
The Bride’s actions show how far she’s willing to go as a leader. She made tough calls, even when they were morally complicated. Losing Nina pushed her to act out of both duty and personal grief.
This finale tied up the main story but also set the stage for more in season two. The fallout from these events will definitely create new challenges for the team.
From Toxic Masculinity to Twisted Plots: Unpacking Creature Commandos’ Finale Flaws

While the finale delivered plenty of action and surprises, some narrative choices and unresolved themes left viewers scratching their heads. Here’s what it includes:
- Frankenstein’s Fate:
It mentions a dramatic moment where The Bride deals with Frankenstein decisively. She knocks him from a tower and spit on him. This underscores her defiance and independence. - New Team Setup:
It details how The Bride is given a new team of Creature Commandos to lead. The lineup includes characters like Weasel, Doctor Phosphorus, a rebuilt G.I. Robot, Nosferata, Khalis, and King Shark. - Character Dynamics:
A snippet of dialogue between Economos and The Bride. This suggests her reluctant acceptance of leadership, adding to her character’s complexity and grit. - Critique of Ilana’s Plan:
It points out flaws in Ilana’s convoluted scheme, emphasizing how it relies on questionable assumptions about Clayface and MacPherson. It also questions how much Ilana knew about Circe’s vision and whether their connection was ever clarified. - Themes and Inconsistencies:
The critique highlights how the initial theme of toxic masculinity—introduced with Circe and the Sons of Themyscira—gets abandoned or shifted mid-season. Instead, the narrative pivots to focus on women in conflict, with Ilana becoming the villain and The Bride killing her. It also critiques how Frankenstein’s arc is sidelined in the finale.
Who Dies in the Creature Commandos Finale Season?

The Creature Commandos finale wraps up with several key character deaths that change the dynamics of Task Force M. Here are the characters who die and how their deaths unfold in Episode 7:
1. Nina

In Creature Commandos Episode 7, Nina Mazursky dies during a mission to assassinate Princess Ilana Rostovic. Task Force M orders her to swim undetected into the castle’s pool to kill the Princess. However, Weasel’s interference alerts Ilana to Nina’s presence, leading to a struggle between the two. The Princess fatally stabs Nina with her dagger just moments before Amanda Waller’s call to abort the mission arrives.
2. Nina’s Father

Edward Mazursky is shown dying in a flashback. Nina’s father was a dedicated scientist who modified her DNA to help her survive her rare birth condition. When she fled into the local waters, Edward rushed to rescue her after a sighting sparked a manhunt. As he reunited with his daughter and comforted her, a nervous police officer shot him in the back, killing Edward instantly.
3. Princess Ilana Rostovic

Princess Ilana Rostovic dies in the finale after the Bride confronts her. Although initially believed to be an innocent victim of Circe’s false vision. The Bride learns that Ilana was behind the manipulation, intending to start World War III. She tries to pull a gun from her drawer, but the Bride shoots her in the head before she can act. This execution is also carried out as vengeance for Nina’s death.
Does Creature Commandos Have a Post-Credits Scene?

Wait, that’s still not all. After the credits roll we get one final scene. Eric Frankenstein is alive. Yes, you heard it right! After his initial encounter with The Bride hundreds of years earlier, is being nursed back to health by yet another old lady. He explains that the events of this episode make him even more in love with his perfect Bride. Then asks the old lady what soup she’s feeding him.
The answer? Spider-dropping soup. “Taste’s disgusting,” says Frankenstein. “Yes,” agrees the old woman. And Season 1 of Creature Commandos ends, for real, as they keep eating the soup. To paraphrase Adam Driver on Girls: bad soup.
How Does the Creature Commandos Finale Set Up Season 2?

First things first: yep, there will indeed be a Creature Commandos Season 2. It was renewed by Max on December 23, 2024. However, it’ll likely be a new mission, with a new team led by The Bride. While Nina is dead, that team would likely include Weasel, G.I. Robot, Doctor Phosphorus, Khalis, Nosferata, and King Shark.
That said, it very much depends on what happens with any of these characters going forward in the DCU, and actor availability given time. Since animated series tend to take about two years to craft seasons. Unless Creature Commandos Season 2 has secretly been in the works for a while, we likely won’t see it until 2026, at the earliest, and there’s a lot to come in the DCU before that.
What Does A New Team Mean for Creature Commandos Season 2?

There are a couple of things that the new team reveal means or the future of Creature Commandos. The first lies with the revelation of King Shark. Even from its first episode, Creature Commandos had some connection to Gunn’s The Suicide Squad and thus, the DCEU. The introduction of King Shark, even with him being voiced by a different actor, only strengthens those connections and suggests that we could see more in the future.
Going beyond that, however, establishing a new team signals that Season 2 will likely see a new mission. The post-credits scene suggests that we will have a new antagonist with Eric Frankenstein (voiced by David Harbour). The scene confirmed that Eric is alive after being shot by The Bride. Given that the first “chapter” of Gunn’s DCU is “Gods and Monsters,” Eric and the Creature Commandos are a major part of that, which simply makes sense.

Final Thoughts on Creature Commandos Finale: A Bold, Twisted Finale with Room for Growth
The Creature Commandos finale was a wild ride, full of twists and big moments. It is packed with unexpected twists and emotional moments. However, some parts of the story felt too complicated, especially Ilana’s plan, which left me a bit confused. The themes also shifted in ways I wasn’t expecting, making the finale feel a little inconsistent.
That said, I still had a great time watching it. Catching it on MAX when it dropped on January 9, 2025, was an experience I won’t forget.
