We picked Oregon for a couple of reasons. First, it’s an underrepresented state. It’s beautiful, but you don’t hear much about it.” It’s fun for us to discover the state as we go. Ledgin revealed,
We named it after my hometown. The first three options didn’t get legal clearance. I found out it costs $1,500 each time to clear a city name, so I just threw out my hometown name, and that became the town’s name in the show. It’s called Merrick. It’s the home of Amy Fisher, if anyone remembers her.

My character is a doctor because they hired him, and he’s been in this institution for many years. What I bring is his pain and failure.
