The mystery thriller series Yellowjackets is landing on Netflix on October 1. Netflix confirmed the news on Twitter/X, teasing fans with the message, “You won’t be hungry much longer.”
Yellowjackets is a perfect fit for Netflix as the spooky season begins. The show has two storylines: one in 1996 and another in 2021. In 1996, a New Jersey girls’ soccer team crashed in the wilderness. They quickly turn to cannibalism and form a strange cult to survive. But it’s unclear if their dark actions are their own doing or if something supernatural is influencing them in the wilderness.

Twenty-five years later, the survivors are now middle-aged and have mostly adjusted to normal life, but the trauma still lingers. When they receive letters from someone who knows their secrets, they are pulled back together.
The show’s mystery will keep you guessing, while the amazing acting by both the young and older cast, along with a great soundtrack, grabs your attention. The first season of Yellowjackets has an impressive 100% score on Rotten Tomatoes, based on 170 reviews.
Yellowjackets first aired on Showtime and were available on Paramount+ after the Showtime streaming service merged with Paramount+ in April 2024. Now that the show is coming to Netflix, it’s likely to gain even more fans before season 3, expected in 2025. This could be part of Paramount’s new streaming strategy.
Why Is Paramount+ Sending One Of Its Buzziest Shows To Netflix?
Paramount’s decision to license the hit show Yellowstone to Peacock was seen as a mistake. The show’s success pulled subscribers away from Paramount+, leading the company to rethink its strategy of licensing out popular shows.
However, former Paramount CEO Bob Bakish mentioned during the May 2023 shareholders meeting that they still believe content licensing brings lasting value to the company and plan to keep focusing on it.
Yellowjackets joining Netflix shows that Bakish’s strategy continues, even after his departure. As Paramount merges with Skydance Media, this move doesn’t mean Paramount+ is struggling, it might be a clever tactic.
With Netflix’s 270 million subscribers, nearly four times more than Paramount+, Yellowjackets can reach a wider audience. But to watch seasons 2 and 3, viewers will need to subscribe to Paramount+ or Showtime.

AMC’s Interview with the Vampire season 1 also recently came to Netflix. Smaller streaming services like Paramount+ and AMC+ might improve their business by sharing their best shows on Netflix.
Yellowjackets season 1 will be available on Netflix starting October 1, 2024, and the whole series is currently streaming on Paramount+. Season 3 of Yellowjackets is now in production.
