Robert Patrick has suggested that he might want to bring back his X-Files character in Ryan Coogler’s new reboot. The Terminator actor, 66, played FBI Special Agent John Doggett in the last two seasons of the original sci-fi drama. His role was controversial among fans because he replaced David Duchovny as the new male lead after Duchovny left the show.
Almost 15 years after The X-Files ended, Duchovny and Gillian Anderson returned as Fox Mulder and Dana Scully in the 2016 revival, but Patrick was missing. He also wasn’t mentioned in The X-Files: I Want to Believe movie in 2008. However, that doesn’t mean there’s no chance of him returning.

In a recent interview with ScreenRant, the Peacemaker star called Doggett his “favorite character of all time,” and said it would be “interesting to see what’s happened” in his life between the end of the show and when the reboot begins.
They’ve never had me back before, because of my schedule. I’ve always been too busy. But that’s the character that’s most dear to my heart, and what I loved about him was he was a very strong, tough guy, but had a heart of gold. That’s why he’s so dear to me.
Doggett was a Marine Corps veteran and a former detective who joined the FBI after his son’s disappearance and death. He was later assigned to the X-Files and worked with Scully. After she was reassigned, he partnered with Agent Monica Reyes (Annabeth Gish).

Reyes died in the last episode of the eleventh season, but Doggett is believed to still be alive. It’s not clear if Coogler plans to bring Patrick back for the reboot, but there is one former X-Files star he hopes will return.
I’ve spoken to the great Gillian Anderson. She’s amazing. She’s incredible. You know, fingers crossed there.
the Sinners director confirmed during an April appearance on the Last Podcast on the Left
As for Anderson, she said on ITV1’s This Morning that she told Coogler he was the “perfect person” to reimagine the series and hinted that she might guest star.
At some point, if the phone rings, and it’s good, and it feels like the right time — perhaps.
Very little is known about the reboot, except that it will likely take place in the same universe as the original show and feature a new, diverse main cast. Coogler hinted that it will still include the scares and excitement of the first series.
I’ve been excited about that for a long time, and I’m fired up to get back to it. Some of those episodes, if we do our jobs right, will be really f—ing scary. We’re gonna try to make something really great, bro, and really be something for the real X-Files fans, and maybe find some new ones.
