Wicked has been topping the daily box office charts more often than Moana 2 over the past two weeks. However, it keeps dropping to second place on weekends when both movies attract bigger crowds. Even though Moana 2 is dominating weekends, Wicked’s one-week early release gave it a big advantage.
The movie has already made a massive $367 million in the U.S., putting it among the top four highest-grossing fantasy films ever. To get there, Wicked overtook hits like The Jungle Book (2016), The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers, and The Fellowship of the Ring. But it’s still behind Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 and The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King.
Wicked has made a big splash at the box office, earning a spot among the 65 highest-grossing movies ever in the U.S. It recently passed Deadpool and Despicable Me 4, but it’s still behind The Batman and The Passion of the Christ.

In 2024, Wicked is one of the top three highest-earning movies in the U.S., beating Despicable Me 4 and Beetlejuice Beetlejuice. However, it doesn’t come close to Inside Out 2 and Deadpool & Wolverine, which both made over $600 million in the U.S.
On top of that, Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande’s musical is now the highest-grossing movie ever based on a Broadway play. It’s also one of the top four highest-grossing musicals, only behind Beauty and the Beast and the two Frozen movies.
Wicked Part Two, now called Wicked: For Good after the song at the end of the movie, is set to hit theaters on November 21, 2025—almost exactly a year after the first movie came out.
Sequels often do better at the box office than the originals, though Joker: Folie á Deux flopped this year as a big exception. If Wicked: For Good gets the same love and positive reviews as the first movie, it has a good chance of matching or even beating its box office success.
