The Wicked movie soundtrack, which came out with the film last November, is back on the music charts after Cynthia Erivo’s fantastic performance (yep, she nailed it!) with Ariana Grande at the Oscars on Sunday night.
You can get the soundtrack in different formats like CD, digital, double vinyl, and double picture disc. If you’re shopping at Target or Barnes & Noble, they have special versions with pink and green vinyl or an alternate cover.
The album features famous songs from the musical, including “Popular” and “Defying Gravity,” sung by Erivo and Grande. They play Elphaba and Glinda, two unlikely friends in a magical story.
The movie is based on Gregory Maguire’s novel, which inspired the hit musical featuring music by Stephen Schwartz. The cast includes Jonathan Bailey as Fiyero, Michelle Yeoh as Madame Morrible (the headmaster of Shiz University), Ethan Slater as Boq, and Bowen Yang as Pfannee.
Universal’s much-awaited musical was a huge success at the box office, earning $263 million in the U.S. and $360 million worldwide in just 10 days. Alongside “Gladiator II” and “Moana 2,” it helped make Thanksgiving weekend the biggest ever for movie theaters.

Even though it got 10 Oscar nominations, the movie only won two awards (costume design and production design). Its two leading stars didn’t win, following a trend where big blockbuster films aren’t as popular with the Academy.
This is just the first half of the story! The second part is coming in November 2025. Jon M. Chu, known for “In the Heights” and “Crazy Rich Asians,” is directing both films.
