HBO’s hit anthology series The White Lotus is preparing to bring its next luxurious escapade to France. Although the network has not yet officially confirmed the setting, Variety has learned exclusively that Season 4 of Mike White’s acclaimed series will film in Paris and the French Riviera, with production scouting some of the country’s most prestigious hotels.
According to sources, the new season will primarily take place in the South of France, with a subplot unfolding in Paris. Production is still in development and won’t begin filming until next year. No hotels have been finalized yet, but scouting is underway at several five-star properties.
Unlike the previous three seasons—which filmed at Four Seasons resorts in Hawaii, Sicily, and Thailand—Season 4 will depart from that tradition. HBO has not renewed its marketing partnership with the Four Seasons hotel chain, leading producers to explore alternative luxury venues.
In Paris, scouts have visited the Le Lutetia, a landmark five-star hotel on the Left Bank in Saint-Germain-des-Prés. Built in 1910 and now part of the Mandarin Oriental group, Le Lutetia has hosted legends such as Charlie Chaplin, Ernest Hemingway, Pablo Picasso, and Josephine Baker. Another contender is the Ritz Paris, an equally iconic establishment that opened in 1898 and was once frequented by Coco Chanel, F. Scott Fitzgerald, and Marcel Proust.
Series creator Mike White, known for keeping details tightly under wraps, dropped a cryptic hint during the “after the episode” featurette that aired following the Season 3 finale.
“For the fourth season, I want to get a little bit out of the crashing waves on rocks vernacular,” he teased. “But there’s always more room for more murders at the White Lotus hotels.”
That clue suggests a shift from tropical islands to the rocky coastal landscapes of the French Riviera, with Monaco and Nice likely among the filming locations.
As with previous installments, Season 4 will follow wealthy Americans vacationing in opulent resorts and interacting—sometimes disastrously—with local characters. The cast is expected to feature a mix of French and American actors, though final casting decisions remain under wraps.
While each season has introduced mostly new characters, familiar faces like Jennifer Coolidge (Tanya), Jon Gries (Greg), and Natasha Rothwell (Belinda) have returned in past chapters. Fans are speculating whether Charlotte LeBon, who appeared as Chloé, could make a reappearance in the upcoming season.
With The White Lotus set to trade palm trees for Parisian opulence and Riviera cliffs, Season 4 promises a fresh setting for Mike White’s darkly satirical exploration of wealth, privilege, and human folly.
