It’s been over two years since HBO stunned fans by canceling Westworld and removing it from Max’s streaming library. Season 5 was meant to be the show’s final chapter, making the decision a major disappointment for longtime viewers and the cast and crew who had dedicated years to it.
While many have lost hope for another season, Westworld star Aaron Paul recently shared a more optimistic perspective. In an interview with Collider’s Perri Nemiroff at SXSW, where he was promoting his upcoming film Ash with Eiza González, Paul hinted at the possibility of a fifth and final season for the seven-time Emmy-winning series.
I do have kind of a sense, and there is a world where maybe we get to tell the rest of that story.
He went on to say:
I’m not going to say anything, but give it time. I’m still holding onto the idea that we will be able to complete that story. It was very well flushed out. I knew sort of the broad strokes of it all, and it was really cool. But we’ll see.
Aaron Paul isn’t the only one holding out hope for a Westworld revival. Jonathan Nolan, who co-created the series with Lisa Joy, shared last year that both he and Joy remained optimistic about returning to finish the story.
James Marsden, another key cast member, also voiced his disappointment over the show’s cancellation, though his outlook was less hopeful. About a year after Westworld was axed, he reflected on the unfinished story, saying it “would have been nice” to see it through. Whether the series will get its long-awaited fifth season remains uncertain, but the desire to complete it is definitely there.

Aaron Paul is best known for his Emmy-winning role as Jesse in Breaking Bad, but his career goes far beyond that iconic character. Recently, he voiced Powerplex in the latest episodes of Invincible, playing a superpowered character with a personal vendetta against Invincible (Steven Yeun).

Paul also starred as Tobey Marshall in the 2014 video game adaptation Need for Speed and is set to appear in The Night House, an upcoming horror film based on Jo Nesbø’s work. Additionally, he made waves with his performance as Cliff in Netflix’s Black Mirror series.
Westworld isn’t available on any streaming platform at the moment, but you can rent or buy it on Prime Video.
