It’s been over two years since Jenna Ortega captivated audiences with her role as the iconic teenage member of the Addams Family in Netflix’s Wednesday. From the moment the series debuted, the world was swept up in the excitement of the horror-comedy teen show, co-created by Alfred Gough and Miles Millar, with Tim Burton as an executive producer.
The long wait between seasons has tested fans’ patience, but there’s finally good news—a release window has been set for this year. While the exact date remains unknown, knowing that new episodes are on the way brings relief to those eager for answers after the cliffhanger finale of Season 1.
What comes after Wednesday Season 2? Will there be more seasons ahead? And if so, how long will fans have to wait? Seeking answers and exploring the show’s much-anticipated return, Collider’s Steve Weintraub took the opportunity to ask Jenna Ortega about it while discussing her upcoming A24 film, Death of a Unicorn.

Ortega admitted that she didn’t have much information about a potential third season of Wednesday. She said,
We haven’t gotten an official thumbs up or anything like that, but I know that the writers are… With a show like that, you kind of want to get ahead of the game. So, I think that they’re kind of messing around and throwing out ideas.
She also shared an update on Season 2’s production progress, telling Weintraub,
We’re still in the edit. I was doing ADR for it two weeks ago. That’s the funny thing about these jobs is you’re done, you wrap, but you’re not really done. So, I’ll probably be working on it until the end.

Over the past year, Ortega has hinted that Wednesday Season 2 will embrace its horror elements even more, drawing inspiration from classic films like Carrie and Prom Night. Discussing what fans can expect visually, she said,
Visually, I can say we have some of the most fun we’ve ever had. It’s crazy to talk about one frame like this, but there is a frame of Pugsley rolling his eyes back with this contraption around his head—that’s all I can say— and it reminds me so much of Full Metal Jacket. It’s insane. So bizarre. I just feel like there are a lot of scenes and frames, and there’s a whole episode based off of slashers, and we make a lot of horror references. So, everything about it, I feel like we kind of had a little bit more trust, and therefore, we felt like we could do bigger, more elaborate sequences, which is nice.
While Wednesday propelled Ortega to widespread fame, she was already making a name for herself as a rising scream queen with roles in Scream, Scream VI, X, and more recently, Beetlejuice Beetlejuice. Along with nods to Carrie, Prom Night, and Full Metal Jacket, it will be interesting to see which other classic films—horror or otherwise—are referenced in Wednesday Season 2 and whether any will connect to Ortega’s past work.
Season 1 of Wednesday is now streaming on Netflix.
