More monsters are heading to Percy Jackson and the Olympians, raising the stakes to a truly cinematic level.
In an interview with Den of Geek, Percy actor Walker Scobell discussed how Season 2 will adapt The Sea of Monsters, teasing the arrival of iconic creatures from Greek mythology. He specifically mentioned Scylla and Charybdis from The Odyssey, who will challenge Percy, Annabeth Chase, Tyson, and Clarisse La Rue as they search for Polyphemus’ island and the Golden Fleece.
Calling it the “biggest” Percy Jackson episode so far, Scobell shared,
It’s its own movie to be honest. I remember that was the first table read we did where we hadn’t read it beforehand. They wanted us to all read it there and experience it for the first time with them.
These elaborate set pieces connect to an interview Scobell gave earlier this month, where he revealed that Season 2 will feature significantly more action than Season 1.
The stakes are higher for our characters, so it almost feels like there’s never a place where we just stop and talk. We’re almost always doing something, which I think it fits this book perfectly. There’s just so much at stake for our characters.
He explained,
In addition to the otherworldly monsters, Percy Jackson has already cast several of its more humanoid villains. Aleks Paunovic will portray Polyphemus—the cyclops Odysseus famously blinded in The Odyssey—while Rosemarie DeWitt will take on the role of Circe, the sorceress who also owns a magical resort.

Season 1 of Percy Jackson not only earned positive reviews but also became one of Disney+’s most popular shows of 2024, despite premiering in late 2023. A recent report confirmed that the first season amassed over three billion views on the platform, making it the year’s most-watched show after the canceled Star Wars High Republic thriller, The Acolyte. Alongside its monstrous threats, Season 2 will introduce fan-favorite characters like Tyson and Thalia Grace, while Courtney B. Vance will step in as Zeus, replacing the late Lance Reddick. The new season will also expand Clarisse’s role, following her Season 1 debut as Percy’s tormentor at Camp Half-Blood.
Beyond the Percy Jackson universe, The Odyssey is set to be adapted for Christopher Nolan’s thirteenth film, following his Oscar-winning biopic Oppenheimer. The cast features Nolan regulars like Matt Damon, Anne Hathaway, and Robert Pattinson, alongside newcomers Tom Holland, Zendaya, and Charlize Theron.
