The debut score for Venom: The Last Dance on Rotten Tomatoes has been announced. Although the score is “rotten” with mostly negative reviews, it’s still not the lowest rating in the trilogy.
Currently, Venom: The Last Dance has a 37% score on the Tomatometer, which shows the percentage of positive reviews from approved critics. The audience rating isn’t out yet, but moviegoers might enjoy it more than the critics.
The score is higher than the original Venom movie, which got 30%, though it had a higher Popcornmeter score of 80%. The second film, Venom: Let There Be Carnage, has Tomatometer and Popcornmeter scores of 57% and 84%, respectively.

We’ll miss seeing Tom Hardy in Hawaiian shirts, riding motorcycles, and talking to himself as Eddie Brock, but not enough to watch another one of these movies,
said Giovanni Lago, a critic from Next Best Picture
He suggested it’s probably for the best that the Venom series ends with The Last Dance. Mike Massie, a reviewer from Gone With the Twins, said,
Why are all these random ideas thrown in without any background, rules, or reasons? The writing is so weak that it’s hard to take anything in the movie seriously.
The writing is so poor that it’s hard to take any of the scenes seriously.
Christy Lemire from RogerEbert wrote in her review,
When Venom: The Last Dance fully embraces its goofy, mismatched buddy comedy style, it can be a lot of fun. Sadly, this doesn’t happen as often as it should. Too often, the movie strays from what worked in the first two films, especially the best one, Venom: Let There Be Carnage. It slows down, focusing on boring events in an underground lab under Area 51. Even worse, it wastes the talents of Juno Temple and Chiwetel Ejiofor by giving them uninteresting roles.
Olly Richards from Empire said,
It’s a disappointing third try for a series that still doesn’t know what it wants to be. The Last Dance struggles to find its groove. If this really is the end of the Venom story, then it finishes as a series that sadly never reached its full potential. There were fun moments along the way, but like the main character, it’s mostly just a dark, messy jumble.

However, some critics have shared positive reviews for the movie. Molly Freeman from Screen Rant praised the film, stating,
Venom: The Last Dance is the perfect sendoff for Tom Hardy’s Eddie Brock and Venom, wrapping up the characters’ stories with deliberate care.

Similarly, David Rooney from The Hollywood Reporter added,
As the final chapter in the trilogy, the movie builds up to an emotional ending that will likely satisfy fans of the earlier films, with some cheesy humor to balance the sadness. The most important part, though, is the fun and affectionate bond between Eddie and Venom, who have grown more comfortable with each other over the years. The action is bigger and louder, sometimes a bit messy, but this is also the most heartwarming of the three movies.
Tom Hardy has confirmed that Venom: The Last Dance will be the final chapter of the movie series before its release. Joining him in closing out the trilogy are co-stars Chiwetel Ejiofor, Juno Temple, Rhys Ifans, Peggy Lu, Alanna Ubach, and Stephen Graham.
Venom: The Last Dance premieres in theaters on October 25, 2024.
