The movie Twisters, made by Universal and Warner Bros., has become the most-watched Pay 1 film on Peacock in its first two weeks. Before this, Oppenheimer, another Universal movie directed by Christopher Nolan and winner of seven Oscars, held the top spot for the best debut on Peacock in the same time frame.
The sequel to Twister, directed by Lee Isaac Chung and starring Glen Powell and Daisy Edgar-Jones, hit Peacock on November 15, after spending 120 days in theaters. This movie, called Twisters, first came out on July 19 and made an impressive $81.1 million at the U.S. box office in its opening weekend—almost double the $41 million that the original movie made when it debuted in 1996.
It even set a record as the biggest opening ever for a natural disaster movie. Twisters ended up earning $267.7 million in the U.S. and $370.9 million worldwide. Earlier this year, Oppenheimer was added to Peacock on February 16, seven months after its theater release.
Three of Peacock’s top five most popular Pay 1 movies have come out in the last three months. These include Twisters, Despicable Me 4, and The Fall Guy: The Extended Cut. Twisters will stay on Peacock until March 14, 2025.
Meanwhile, Five Nights at Freddy’s by Blumhouse and Universal is still Peacock’s biggest same-day streaming and theater release. Based on the popular video game, it made $80 million in its first weekend, setting a record for movies released in theaters and on streaming at the same time.
With $291.4 million earned worldwide, it’s also one of the highest-earning movies with this release style. During COVID, Warner Bros. used this strategy even more often.

Other popular Universal movies on Peacock with this same release plan include Halloween Kills, Halloween Ends, and the romantic comedy Marry Me, starring Jennifer Lopez and Owen Wilson. Since Five Nights at Freddy’s followed a same-day release strategy and not a Pay 1 release, it isn’t counted in Peacock’s Pay 1 movie rankings.
