Businesses in a Cornwall town have said that tourism and earnings have gone up because of the BBC drama Beyond Paradise. The show, now in its third season, is filmed in Cornwall and Devon, with the Cornish town of Looe used as the setting for the made-up Devon town called Shipton Abbott.
Beyond Paradise has had a very positive impact on the town. People are visiting us more here, which is great.
Ben Palmer, chef and owner of the Sardine Factory in Looe, said
At the restaurant we have seen a massive uptake in bookings, which is fantastic.
Mr Palmer’s business was featured in an episode on the show, although it was renamed the “Ten Mile Kitchen”.
It was quite funny to see our restaurant turn into something else. People are coming to down to visit us to see the set they saw on the episode so we are fortunate and privileged to have featured. And we’ve seen an uplift in bookings and I’m very positive that other businesses have too. We all need that at this time of year and it has been warmly welcomed.

Adam Hackett, who owns Choklet, a cocktail bar in Looe, said the show’s effect had been “amazing.”
We’re seeing a huge footfall off the back of the programme. We’re seeing more customers, including a lot more foreign tourists, actually.

He mentioned that his business had experienced a 20% increase in earnings compared to the same period last year.
They have seen the programme and it’s brought them down to Looe. I think it’s made a huge difference.

Jade and Emma Hadley, from Wiltshire, were exploring filming spots during their holiday in Cornwall.
It’s really nice to spot the bits that you see on the telly and go around. We’ve been spotting different areas all across Cornwall, but the police station was definitely a highlight. We even had our picture taken there.

It’s quite nice to watch Beyond Paradise while actually being in the area where they filmed it. It’s like an added bonus to our holiday.

The filming location of Beyond Paradise is getting more attention because a new related series is starting in France. On April 13, 2025, France 3 will show Mystères au paradis, a spin-off of the earlier show Meurtres au paradis. This new series will follow Inspector Humphrey Goodman and his fiancée Martha as they move to the made-up town of Shipton Abbott, which is filmed in Looe. The show will bring back favorite characters and keep the same British humor and mystery mix.

Even though Shipton Abbott isn’t a real place, the scenes filmed in Looe have already caught the interest of French viewers and others. Looe, a pretty fishing town about 20 km from Plymouth, is known for being great for families and having lovely coastal views. It’s a perfect spot for a crime drama with a light and fun side.

With the new series starting, Looe may see even more tourists, just like it did with Beyond Paradise. Since both shows are connected, this could help Looe become even more popular with fans of British TV.
