Disney+ recently released a new Star Wars series called Skeleton Crew, which has received excellent reviews—95% from critics and 80% from viewers on Rotten Tomatoes. Fans are excited about the show, but earlier this year, they were disappointed when Disney and Lucasfilm announced that another Star Wars series, The Acolyte, would not continue with a second season.

This was surprising because The Acolyte had good reviews and plenty of viewers. What made the cancellation even harder for fans was that the show left a lot of unfinished stories and hints about what could happen next. During a fan event earlier this year, actor Manny Jacinto shared that the creator of The Acolyte had already planned the series’ future, but those ideas won’t happen now because the show was canceled.
I remember Leslye’s dream was for us to do three seasons, not just this one… But there’s something about having a finite ending to things that makes it so much more special. So, yeah, I don’t know if I’d do it or not, but you know, three seasons and a movie would have been incredible, and I know we had so much more to explore with that second season.
It’s no shock that The Acolyte was planned to have at least three seasons and even a big movie afterward. That’s why its cancellation feels even worse for fans. The Acolyte was special because it was the first Star Wars story not connected to the Skywalker family. Instead, it took fans way back to the High Republic era, long before The Phantom Menace.

Like most shows, its first season had a few ups and downs, but overall, it was really well done and set up many exciting future stories—especially about Darth Plagueis.
The main star of The Acolyte is Lee Jung-jae, who is famous for his role in the hit Netflix show Squid Game. That show is coming back with a second season at the end of the month.

In The Acolyte, Amandla Stenberg—who starred in The Hunger Games and Bodies Bodies Bodies—plays two characters, Osha and Mae. Manny Jacinto plays Qimir, while Dafne Keen, who was X-23 in Logan and will also appear in Deadpool & Wolverine, plays Jecki Lon. The show also features Charlie Barnett and Joonas Suotamo.
Even though The Acolyte won’t have a second season, fans can always watch Season 1 on Disney+.
