In 2022, something big was discovered in the Norwegian mountains—a giant troll! After years of sleep, the creature woke up and caused chaos. The movie “Troll” showed that old Norwegian folklore might not be just stories. It became a huge hit, with 103 million views on Netflix, making it one of the platform’s most popular non-English movies ever. Netflix announced a sequel last year, and now there are more updates.
Netflix shared news about “Troll 2” at an event in Hollywood called Tudum Theater, along with other exciting projects like Japan’s action-packed “Bullet Train Explosion,” Korea’s assassin story “Mantis,” and a documentary about soccer star Vinicius Jr. “Troll 2” is now officially in the works!
While the plot is still a secret, the original director, Roar Uthaug, and writer Espen Aukan are back. Actors like Sara Khorami and Jon Ketil Johnsen will also star. The movie will be released in 2025, and fans can’t wait to see what this monstrous sequel will bring!
Released by Netflix in December 2022, Troll was directed by Roar Uthaug, a filmmaker known for the 2018 Tomb Raider reboot starring Alicia Vikander. Uthaug has also worked on movies like the action-packed The Wave, the thrilling adventure Escape, and the chilling horror film Cold Prey.

The movie stars renowned Norwegian actress Ine Marie Wilmann alongside Mads Sjøgård Pettersen, Kim Falck, Gard B. Eidsvold, and others. Troll was a big success, earning a 90% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
The story follows a massive, mythical creature awakened after centuries, causing chaos and forcing a team to stop it. Uthaug revealed that Troll was a passion project he had been considering for over 20 years. Given his dedication, it’s no surprise there were plans for a sequel from the beginning.
During an interview with What’s on Netflix, Producer Kristian Strand Sinkerud hinted at exciting things for the sequel. With the first film’s success and deep ties to Norwegian folklore, fans eagerly await what’s next in this monstrous saga.
