The second season of Andor will bring to life an essential moment in Star Wars history—the Ghorman Massacre. This was a terrible event caused by the Empire and became one of the reasons people started fighting back. Showrunner Tony Gilroy recently shared in an interview that this event will be shown in detail when the new season arrives in the spring.
Tony Gilroy talked about why the Ghorman Massacre is essential. It has been mentioned many times in Star Wars stories, but no one has ever shown what happened.
Gilroy said that Ghorman is part of the official Star Wars history, but there are no details about it. That means he can tell the story in his own way.
There’s also a bit of confusion about the Ghorman Massacre, and what is the Ghorman Massacre? There’s a lot of confusion within canon. So, it was an opportunity to rebuild in a really significant way. It’s a very significant part of our show that can do a lot of different things for us. Quite honestly, it’s very expensive to build, so we really want to use it as much as possible so it carries over five different episodes. I’m really confident that the really deep, passionate Star Wars community will appreciate how we’ve straightened out that story.
The Ghorman Massacre was a momentous event that helped start the Rebel Alliance. It was first mentioned in a Star Wars book back in 1990. The massacre happened on the planet Ghorman, where people were protesting against high taxes set by the Empire. A huge crowd stood before an Imperial ship to block its landing. But instead of stopping, the ship’s captain, Wilhuff Tarkin (who later controlled the Death Star in Star Wars), landed on top of them, killing thousands.

This terrible act made Tarkin more potent in the Empire and made more people stand up against the Emperor. The event has been discussed in many Star Wars books and comics as a significant historical moment.
When Disney bought Star Wars in 2012, they decided that only the six movies and The Clone Wars TV show were official stories. Everything else became part of “Legends,” meaning it wasn’t part of the main story anymore.
Because of this, the Ghorman Massacre had to be reintroduced into the new Star Wars timeline. It has been mentioned in newer stories, like the Rebels cartoon and the Sana Starros comics, but the full event has never been shown. Andor gave a small hint about it in the first season when Perrin Fertha (the husband of Rebel leader Mon Mothma) mentioned the Ghorman shipping lanes crisis.
Andor tells the story of Cassian Andor (played by Diego Luna) as he changes from a small-time criminal to a key member of the Rebel Alliance. The second season will lead right up to the events of Rogue One, where Cassian plays a major role in helping the Rebels, but at a great personal cost.
