Sony has shifted the release date for Tom Holland’s highly anticipated fourth “Spider-Man” film, pushing it back by one week from July 24, 2026, to July 31, 2026. This move strategically places the Marvel blockbuster two weeks after the debut of Christopher Nolan’s “The Odyssey,” which also features Holland and is set to premiere on July 17, 2026.
The scheduling tweak gives Holland some breathing room between starring in two major films within the same month. It also has significant implications for theater chains, particularly when it comes to Imax screenings. Before this change, “Spider-Man 4” would have premiered just one week after “The Odyssey,” a film that continues Nolan’s longstanding partnership with Imax, featuring footage shot on the company’s high-powered cameras and securing a dedicated theatrical window in premium formats. With Sony’s move, “The Odyssey” now has two weeks of uninterrupted Imax access before “Spider-Man 4” enters the competition.

This type of scheduling battle previously unfolded in July 2023 when “Mission: Impossible — Dead Reckoning” secured Imax screens, only to be quickly overtaken by Nolan’s “Oppenheimer” shortly after its release.
Sony officially confirmed Holland’s return as Peter Parker for a fourth installment four months ago, with Destin Daniel Cretton set to direct. Production is expected to begin this summer, though casting details remain under wraps. It’s still unclear whether Zendaya will reprise her role as MJ.
However, Zendaya is confirmed to star alongside Holland in “The Odyssey.” The epic adaptation of Homer’s classic Greek poem recently began production, with Matt Damon leading the cast as Odysseus. The star-studded ensemble also includes Mia Goth, Anne Hathaway, Lupita Nyong’o, Robert Pattinson, Charlize Theron, Benny Safdie, Jon Bernthal, and John Leguizamo. Universal has already unveiled a first look at Damon in character, generating excitement for Nolan’s latest cinematic venture.
