Tina Knowles, Beyoncé’s mother, has addressed her involvement in the fallout from a shocking rape allegation against her son-in-law, Jay-Z. The claims, which also named Sean “Diddy” Combs, have sparked widespread discussion, with both men denying the allegations.
Shortly after, the civil lawsuit was amended to include Jay-Z (born Shawn Carter) alongside Combs, a verified Instagram account belonging to Knowles, 70, who “liked” a post from ABC 7 Chicago detailing the allegations. The post read: “Breaking News: Jay-Z, Diddy Named in Lawsuit Alleging Rape of Girl, 13.”
The lawsuit accuses Carter and Combs of raping a 13-year-old girl during an afterparty for the MTV Video Music Awards in 2000, while a third, unnamed female celebrity allegedly watched. Carter has strongly denied the claims, calling them a “blackmail attempt.”
Knowles later addressed the situation in an Instagram post, claiming her account was hacked.
Jay-Z, 55, responded to the allegations on his Roc Nation X account, slamming the claims as “heinous” and criticizing Jane Doe’s attorney, Tony Buzbee. Carter called the allegations a false “blackmail attempt” and insisted they were an effort to coerce a settlement.
The lawsuit, filed initially against Combs in October, has added Jay-Z and an unnamed female celebrity as defendants. Jane Doe alleges that she was trying to gain entry to the VMAs in New York City in 2000 and was invited to an afterparty by a limousine driver claiming to work for Combs. The lawsuit states she was later drugged and raped at the party.
Combs, who is currently in custody on unrelated racketeering and sex trafficking charges, has denied the allegations, calling the lawsuit an “extortion attempt.” He is scheduled for trial in May 2025.
The allegations against Jay-Z and Combs remain under scrutiny while the legal and public reactions continue to unfold.
