Timothée Chalamet’s environmentally conscious decision to ride a Lime bike to the London premiere of A Complete Unknown didn’t go quite as planned. The Oscar nominee revealed on the French talk show Quotidien that he was hit with a £65 (approximately $79) fine for parking the bike incorrectly upon arriving at the BFI Southbank event.
It’s ecological! It was horrible, because it was actually kind of an advert for them.
Chalamet explained, emphasizing his intention behind choosing the bike
Chalamet opted for the bike ride due to a traffic jam that would have delayed his arrival by car. While the gesture was meant to be practical and environmentally friendly, the fine added an unexpected twist to the evening.
The actor’s bike escapade coincides with the release of A Complete Unknown, where Chalamet stars as a young Bob Dylan in the James Mangold-directed biopic. The film, now playing in theaters, chronicles Dylan’s early days as a 19-year-old from Minnesota arriving in 1961 New York City, destined to revolutionize American music. Featuring a star-studded cast that includes Edward Norton as Pete Seeger, Monica Barbaro as Joan Baez, and Elle Fanning as Sylvie Russo, the film has already earned Chalamet a Golden Globe nomination for his portrayal of the iconic singer-songwriter.
We were like a menace to Jim because we were always trying to sneak stuff in and honor these amazing artists. My favorite thing about Edward… is he really wanted to honor the spirit of Bob — who is alive and well — and Pete Seeger through this press, and not compromise why we’re ultimately there.
Reflecting on his work with Norton, Chalamet shared at the Los Angeles premiere
While Chalamet’s eco-friendly intentions may have backfired slightly, his dedication to honoring Dylan’s legacy both on and off-screen remains at the forefront of his promotional efforts for A Complete Unknown. Fans can catch the critically acclaimed biopic in theaters now.
