The The Great British Sewing Bee Season 12 cast has welcomed a new contestant from Suffolk, with Tim, a 60-year-old care farm director, set to compete for the title of Britain’s best home sewer.
The long-running BBC competition returns on Tuesday, July 14, at 8 p.m. on BBC One, introducing a fresh group of amateur sewers ready to showcase their creativity, technical skills, and passion for garment making.
Who Is Tim?
Tim lives in the Suffolk countryside with his partner of 25 years, Mark, and their dog, Charlie.
Away from the sewing room, he serves as the director of a care farm, where he provides therapeutic placements for adults with learning disabilities and individuals working to improve their mental well-being. His work focuses on creating a supportive environment where people can build confidence, develop practical skills, and connect with nature.
While sewing has become one of his greatest passions, it is only one part of a life dedicated to helping others.
How Tim Discovered His Love of Sewing?
Tim’s interest in sewing began during childhood, when he watched his mother create clothes for him and his siblings.
Although he admired the craft from a young age, it wasn’t until years later that he began sewing himself. While caring for his mother, he came across sewing videos on social media that inspired him to purchase a second-hand Singer sewing machine and start learning the craft firsthand.
Since then, sewing has evolved from a creative pastime into an important part of his daily life.
According to the BBC, Tim views sewing as more than simply making clothes. For him, it is also a way to connect with people, express creativity, and tell meaningful stories through handmade garments.
What to Expect From Tim This Season?
Throughout the competition, Tim plans to showcase his signature classic style, paying close attention to thoughtful finishing touches and creating garments with personal stories behind them.
His approach combines traditional craftsmanship with meaningful design, something he hopes will help him stand out among this year’s contestants.
