Richard E. Grant (from Withnail & I), Tom Ellis (from Lucifer), Geoff Bell (from Kingsman: The Secret Service), Paul Freeman (from Raiders of the Lost Ark), Sarah Niles (from Ted Lasso), and Ingrid Oliver (from Doctor Who) have joined the cast of Amblin and Netflix’s movie The Thursday Murder Club.
Helen Mirren, Pierce Brosnan, Ben Kingsley, Celia Imrie, David Tennant, Jonathan Pryce, Naomi Ackie, Daniel Mays, and Henry Lloyd-Hughes also star in the film.
Filming has started on this exciting crime-comedy by writer-director Chris Columbus. The movie is about friends in a retirement home who solve murders for fun, but they get involved in a real case. The main characters are played by Helen Mirren (a former spy named Elizabeth), Ben Kingsley (a former psychiatrist named Ibrahim), Pierce Brosnan (a retired union activist named Ron), and Celia Imrie (a former nurse named Joyce).
Jennifer Todd and Chris Columbus are producing the movie. The executive producers are Holly Bario, Jeb Brody, Eleanor Columbus, and Jo Burn. The film is based on Richard Osman’s 2020 novel, The Thursday Murder Club.
Richard Osman said the cast is “the greatest British cast assembled since the [Harry Potter] movies.” He might be right.
Richard Osman is famous in the UK as the host of the BBC game show Richard Osman’s House of Games and as the quizmaster on Pointless. He worked with Endemol UK (now Banijay UK) for many years and became the Creative Director at the Big Brother company before leaving in 2020.
