Thomasin McKenzie, known for her role in Last Night in Soho, will star with Margaret Qualley in Victorian Psycho. This new psychological horror thriller brings Qualley back together with Zachary Wigon, the director behind her praised film Sanctuary, a Neon thriller about a dominatrix.
Anton recently introduced Victorian Psycho to buyers at AFM. The company is handling international rights, co-representing domestic rights, and fully financing the movie. The film is based on an upcoming novel by bestselling author Virginia Feito (Mrs. March), who also wrote the screenplay.
The story takes place in 1858 and follows Winifred Notty (played by Margaret Qualley), a quirky young governess who arrives at a spooky, isolated mansion called Ensor House. Her job is to teach the children proper manners and share their family’s history. However, she hides a dark secret—she has psychopathic tendencies. As Winifred settles into her role, the mansion’s staff start disappearing mysteriously, making the estate’s owners suspicious of their new governess.
Thomasin McKenzie will play a nursemaid at Ensor House who becomes friends with the strange new governess.
Filming for Victorian Psycho is planned for February. Dan Kagan, known for Longlegs (Neon) and Significant Other (Paramount), will produce the film under his Traffic banner. Sebastien Raybaud (Greenland series) will produce for Anton, along with Zachary Wigon, in partnership with Anonymous Content. Nick Shumaker and Bard Dorros will serve as executive producers. UTA Independent Film Group and CAA Media Finance are working with Anton to handle U.S. distribution rights.
Thomasin McKenzie, a talented actress from New Zealand, first gained attention for her lead role alongside Ben Foster in Debra Granik’s survival drama Leave No Trace. Since then, she has impressed audiences with her performances in Taika Waititi’s Jojo Rabbit, Edgar Wright’s Last Night in Soho, and William Oldroyd’s Eileen, where she starred with Anne Hathaway. She has also worked with renowned directors like Jane Campion (The Power of the Dog), Justin Kurzel (True History of the Kelly Gang), and Peter Jackson (The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies).
Next to be seen starring opposite Bill Nighy in Netflix’s historical drama Joy, releasing on November 22, Thomasin McKenzie also has the comedy Fackham Hall from comedian Jimmy Carr on her upcoming schedule. She is represented by UTA, Untitled Entertainment, and Gail Cowan Management.
