Amazon announced that Season 2 of The Lord of The Rings: The Rings of Power has been watched by 55 million worldwide since it launched on August 29, 34 days ago.
The number of viewers for Season 2 of The Lord of The Rings: The Rings of Power has only grown by 15 million since Amazon first reported 40 million viewers 11 days after it launched. Compared to Season 1, the new season’s viewership has been slower.
In 2022, Season 1 reached 25 million viewers in just one day. Recently, Season 2 made it to the Nielsen Streaming Top 10 with one billion minutes watched, but that’s lower than Season 1’s 1.3 billion minutes. This is surprising since the new total includes viewers from both seasons, and Season 2’s first episodes were longer than Season 1’s.

Amazon shared the news about Season 2’s viewership during its presentation in London. Studio chief Jennifer Salke mentioned that the U.K. is one of the biggest regions for the show’s audience, though no specific data was provided. Salke also said that over 150 million people have watched Season 1 since it first aired two years ago.
Amazon hasn’t explained what they consider a “view,” so it’s unclear how much of the season the reported 55 million viewers have watched.
Earlier, Amazon announced that the first four episodes of Season 2 of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power reached 40 million viewers worldwide in 11 days. However, without knowing how Amazon measures viewership, it’s hard to understand the full meaning of that number. For example, the 40 million could just be people who watched any part of the episodes.
Amazon has shared similar numbers for other shows, like Season 1 of The Rings of Power, which reached 25 million viewers on its first day in 2022. Based on Luminate’s data for Season 2’s opening weekend, it seems that viewership for the new season is much lower than the first.
Earlier this year, Fallout reached 65 million viewers in 16 days, likely higher than The Rings of Power’s 40 million over 11 days. The Boys Season 4 had 55 million viewers over a longer period of 39 days, making comparisons with The Rings of Power harder.

Amazon says that Season 2 of The Rings of Power is now one of its top five most-watched TV seasons, behind Fallout and Season 2 of Reacher. The Terminal List from 2022 has moved down to sixth place.
The company also reports that “tens of millions” of viewers have watched Season 1 since early August, and the show has been Prime Video’s top title since Season 2 premiered on August 29. Amazon claims a large part of the audience is from outside the U.S., but hasn’t shared any data to confirm this.
Seasons 1 and 2 of The Rings of Power are available to watch on Amazon Prime. However, Amazon Prime hasn’t confirmed anything about Season 3 yet. Until we hear more, fans shouldn’t expect Season 3 to arrive before 2026.
