The HBO show The Penguin is becoming popular! On October 20, 2024, it got its biggest audience yet, with 1.8 million people in the U.S. watching across different platforms. According to Deadline, this is the best single-day number since the series, a spinoff of The Batman movie, first started.
The 1.8 million viewers are more than the 1.7 million people who watched the previous week’s episode, according to Warner Bros. Discovery. So far, the show’s first episode has been watched by more than 14 million people.

The Penguin is an intense crime show about Oz Cobb’s constant struggle to gain power in Gotham City. Both viewers and critics love the show, which has fans excited and wondering if there will be a second season.
On Rotten Tomatoes, it has a 94% rating from critics and a 91% score from the audience.
The show’s creator, Lauren LeFranc, spoke about possibly a second season at New York Comic-Con. She said she believes plenty of story is left to tell and room for the characters to grow.
Gotham is ripe to tell so many stories. The comics have shown that through decades and decades. I love this version of Gotham, too. I love all the characters that we’ve gotten to explore in this world. I think there’s always room for more of that. If the story can be even better, absolutely.

I don’t know man. Don’t get me wrong – I loved it – but it got in on me a little bit. By the end of it, I was bitching and moaning to anyone who would listen to me that I f***ing wanted it to be finished.
Colin Farrell Said
Even though Colin Farrell’s character seems grumpy, he said he feels honored and thankful to play the role.
I tried to remind them that I had ‘grumpy gratitude….I grew up watching Burgess Meredith (who played Penguin in the 1966 Batman series), and then Danny DeVito (in 1992’s Batman Returns) was my Penguin – so being a part of the lineage of that storytelling, I really did feel privileged. But, by the end of it.
Colin Farrell further added
The Penguin happens just one week after the movie The Batman (2022), starring Robert Pattinson.
