Jason Statham’s action movie The Mechanic earned $76.3 million in theaters and made it to Netflix’s Top 10 US list 13 years after it first came out. Statham is famous for starring in action films like The Expendables and The Meg.
One of the movies that helped make him more popular in action films was The Mechanic, a 2011 remake of a 1972 movie that originally starred Charles Bronson.
Although Statham’s version got mixed reviews, the movie is still remembered for its exciting action scenes.

Netflix announced that The Mechanic made it to the top 10 movies in the US for the week of September 30 to October 6, 2024.
The movie ranked at Number 5 for the week, right below the action movie Escape Plan starring Sylvester Stallone and just above The Platform 2, a sequel to Netflix’s popular 2019 Spanish sci-fi movie. Sitting in the middle of the list, it’s clear that many people still enjoy watching Statham in action.
It’s no shock that Statham’s action-packed film made its way onto Netflix’s Top 10 list this past week, especially since it was just added to the platform at the beginning of the month.
The movie is about an assassin named Arthur Bishop (played by Statham), who goes after the people responsible for killing his mentor, Harry McKenna (played by Donald Sutherland).
Arthur teams up with Harry’s son, Steve (played by Ben Foster), and together, they hunt down the people involved, making their deaths look like accidents or suicides. Even though the movie got mixed reviews when it was released, it’s packed with exciting action scenes that are fun to watch.
Even though The Mechanic has plenty of exciting action, its story isn’t as interesting as the original 1972 version starring Charles Bronson. The original movie had some unique touches, like a 16-minute scene with no talking, where Bishop takes out a target.
The relationship between Bishop and Steve was also more interesting in the original, along with other creative choices. Still, the remake is fun to watch because of its nonstop action and having a well-known actor like Statham in the lead role.
It’s no surprise that Statham’s action movie made it to Netflix’s Top 10 list this past week, especially since it was just added at the beginning of the month.
While the original Mechanic is a classic Bronson film with a more interesting story, some people might prefer the remake because of the updated action and familiar actors for today’s audience.
These reasons likely explain why the movie has become popular on Netflix, showing that other Statham action films could also do well on the platform.
