HBO confirmed in August 2024 that The Gilded Age will return later this year, but they haven’t announced a release date yet. However, reports say filming for Season 3, which began last July, has wrapped up. Fans can expect to see familiar characters along with some new faces. As the show moves into a new chapter, an HBO executive hinted at big surprises, especially for the couples.
In an interview with Deadline about HBO’s 2025 drama lineup, EVP Francesca Orsi shared that The Gilded Age Season 3 will focus a lot on divorce. She also mentioned arranged marriages but didn’t reveal which characters will be involved. In her words:
I think, broadly, it’s an interesting way in which we’ve explored that era of how divorce came to the forefront in United States relationships. I think that there’s a conversation to be had about arranged marriages, and if it doesn’t necessarily work, what divorce looks like in that time, and what that bodes for society. And then, whether you’re accepted in society or not, based on a divorce.
The Gilded Age last aired on December 17, 2023, with the episode In Terms of Winning and Losing. The episode followed the household staff as they questioned their future at the Rhijn residence, while Peggy wondered about her next steps at The New York Globe. Meanwhile, Marian opened up to Dashiell about her true feelings, and the battle between opera houses reached its peak.
In Season 2, George and Bertha Russell faced a hidden scandal. However, things didn’t end well between them when Bertha made a big decision without talking to her husband or daughter. She promised their daughter’s hand in marriage to the Duke of Buckingham, leaving George and Gladys out of the discussion.

In August 2024, The Gilded Age announced several new cast members for Season 3, including Bill Camp, Merritt Wever, Leslie Uggams, LisaGay Hamilton, Jessica Frances Dukes, Andrea Martin, Hattie Morahan, and Paul Alexander Nolan. More names joined in November, such as Dylan Baker, Kate Baldwin, Michael Cumpsty, John Ellison Conlee, Bobby Steggert, and Hannah Shealy.
While details about Season 3’s story remain a mystery, fans can look forward to seeing familiar faces from Season 2. Morgan Spector, Carrie Coon, Taissa Farmiga, Denée Benton, Ben Ahlers, Simon Jones, Debra Monk, Kelli O’Hara, Patrick Page, Ben Lamb, Donna Murphy, and Ashlie Atkinson are all set to return. The Gilded Age will be back with new episodes later this year.
