Sasha Calle only got to play Supergirl once in The Flash movie last year. But now, it’s been decided that Milly Alcock will take over as the new Supergirl in future DC movies.
Before James Gunn and Peter Safran took charge of DC Studios, there were plans for Sasha Calle to return as Supergirl after her role in The Flash. They even filmed a different ending for the movie that hinted at more adventures with her Supergirl, but now that won’t happen.

Calle told The Hollywood Reporter that she feels mixed emotions about it. Losing the chance to keep playing Supergirl was “heartbreaking” for her.

She’s still proud of what she did with the character and glad so many fans enjoyed her version of Supergirl, the “Woman of Tomorrow.”
I was so deeply in love with that role. I had a conversation about her future many times. When I signed onto that, it was for a multiple picture deal. That’s a common thing when you sign onto a franchise. So it was very heartbreaking for me, and it was very confusing. Ultimately, I know that I did my best.
she explained
She further added:
I look back at it as something super beautiful. It’s been said that a queer Latina girl like me couldn’t be Supergirl. But I was, and no one can take that away from me. That is the most important thing for me; I did something that mattered. And whether you saw yourself represented in me or not, a lot of people really connected with her and loved her. It’s been said that a queer Latina girl like me couldn’t be Supergirl. But I was, and no one can take that away from me.
Reflecting on what it was like, Calle had also shared:
The respect some fans have] means so much to me. It was very hard, I have to say. I had bittersweet feelings as I was maneuvering everything. I was very excited, but there were a lot of unanswered questions for me, so it was very bittersweet.
Some good things still came out of it. One big positive was Sasha Calle’s close friendship with Leslie Grace, who was also set to play a DC superhero Batgirl.

But in August 2022, her Batgirl movie was canceled before it was finished. Both Sasha and Leslie had hoped they’d get to team up as Supergirl and Batgirl one day, but instead, they supported each other through these tough changes.
So I just had to remind myself that I got to do this incredible movie and that I put my heart and soul into it, and that no matter where it was going to go, I did that. No one could take that away from me, and I had to own it. As my first film, there were so many unknowns, and you can feel imposter-y, sometimes, because you’re trying to understand where you fit. But I again go back to having people in my life who support me and love me and know my value, and I had a lot of those people there to remind me that I was worth it and that I was strong and that I could enjoy what I had earned in that moment.
she added.
The Flash got mixed reviews and didn’t make as much money as expected, but most critics agreed that Sasha Calle stood out and did a great job as Supergirl in the movie. Fans even wanted Sasha Calle to have her own Supergirl movie, even though The Flash didn’t do well in theaters.
That didn’t lead to a new movie, but it likely showed Calle that people enjoyed her version of Supergirl, even if she only got to play the role once.
