Keri Russell, who plays Ambassador Kate Wyler, will have less time on screen when The Diplomat comes back on October 31. This is because the new season on Netflix will have only six episodes, which is fewer than before.
In an interview with TVLine, Debora Cahn, the creator of the show, said that the decision to cut the number of episodes from eight in Season 1 to six for the new season came from the people working on the show.
Cahn explains that they didn’t have enough time to make all the episodes. she joked:
Cahn says that the break between Seasons 1 and 2 was supposed to be shorter than the 18 months it ended up being.
In Season 2, Kate will deal with the effects of the big explosion that happened at the end of Season 1. “Everyone is really shaken up, and some people might not bounce back,” said Alex Graves, the executive producer and director, to Netflix.
As the ambassador looks for the truth, her biggest fears come true: the attack didn’t come from another country, but from within the British government itself.
