Ted Danson and Michael Schur, the creator of The Good Place, have teamed up again for a Netflix series called A Man on the Inside. The show premiered today and is already a hit, climbing to the #1 spot on Netflix’s top 10 TV shows in the U.S. The series is inspired by the 2020 documentary The Mole Agent. In it, Danson plays Charles, a retired professor who answers an ad in the paper to help with a private investigation.
Charles takes on a mission to go undercover at a retirement home to solve the mystery of a missing ruby necklace. The story is packed with funny moments, thanks to the amazing cast working alongside Ted Danson. Mary Elizabeth Ellis (It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia) plays Emily, Charles’ daughter. Lilah Richcreek Estrada plays Julie, the private investigator who hires Charles and pretends to be his daughter. Stephanie Beatriz from Brooklyn Nine-Nine stars as Didi, the sharp-eyed director of the retirement home. Didi shares some of the most heartfelt scenes with Charles, along with other talented actors.
With a 96% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, A Man on the Inside shows that Michael Schur and Ted Danson still make a great team. The show brings back some of the ideas and messages fans loved in their previous work.

This new Netflix comedy blends a fun mystery story with deeper themes, making it enjoyable for both new viewers and longtime fans of Schur’s shows. The lovable characters add even more charm to the series.
Like The Good Place, A Man on the Inside focuses on second chances and starting fresh. Even though the story takes place in a retirement home, it explores how people can live fully no matter their age. Along with these meaningful ideas, the show includes a fun mystery that makes it perfect for binge-watching on Netflix.
The first season has eight episodes and wraps up the main mystery nicely, but strong viewership might lead to a second season. Netflix hasn’t confirmed anything yet, and while the story has plenty of room for more seasons, we know the platform has a history of canceling popular shows.
It’s unclear if the location and cast will stay the same since the main character arcs and secrets from the first season are already wrapped up. The season finale hints at a new mystery for Charles, which might take him to a different place with an all-new cast, similar to Only Murders in the Building on Hulu.
No matter what’s next, this mystery-comedy starring Ted Danson is gaining fans quickly because of its unique story and the creative team behind it. The big question now is whether its strong start will keep people watching through the holiday season.
