The fan backlash is so strong that this is one of those moments where the network should admit its mistake, pay attention to viewers, and undo its decision.

Don’t mess with Australian Survivor fans. Fans are flooding social media with outrage after the announcement that Jonathan LaPaglia has been axed as the host of Australian Survivor.
Many said the same powerful message: “JLP is Australian Survivor.”
We cannot allow this change to happen without voicing our strong support for JLP to remain the host of Australian Survivor.
A petition on Change.org states,
The host plays a crucial role in maintaining the show’s appeal, and Jonathan LaPaglia has proven himself time and again as the perfect fit for this role. His deep understanding of the game, combined with his rapport with contestants and viewers alike, makes him irreplaceable.
It continues,
So far, the petition has gathered more than 2300 signatures.
The fan response comes after JLP took to Instagram yesterday to confirm what he called an “epic blindside” when Network 10 informed him they were going in “a different direction” for 2026.
I have loved and will dearly miss the immensely talented crew, all the crafty players and our loyal sassy audience. I’m a huge fan of this incredible game, always have been, always will be. It has been one of the greatest adventures of my career to helm Australian Survivor, so it is without a doubt the hardest challenge of all to snuff my own torch but here goes: JLP the tribe has spoken.
He shared,
10 thanked Jonathan LaPaglia for his “authority, intelligence and empathy…. over the last 10 years,” but gave no clear reason for his sudden departure, leaving fans to speculate. Some believe cost-cutting could be behind the move, while others suggest possible clashes with producers.
In his Instagram post, JLP made reference to the “non-elim bullshit,” echoing past comments to TV Tonight where he said, “I don’t like the non-elims in our show. I’m not a fan.”
He previously drew criticism from producers during the pandemic when he publicly stated that Australian Survivor couldn’t be filmed in Queensland due to its demanding infrastructure—comments made while producers were actively negotiating location deals to do exactly that.

Still, fans see LaPaglia’s outspokenness as a sign of his deep investment in the show’s quality and in giving viewers the best experience possible. If there were creative differences, the failure to resolve them ultimately reflects poorly on Endemol Shine Australia and Network 10.
Survivor hosting goes far beyond just announcing challenges or managing Tribal Councils. It demands a deep understanding of strategy and the ability to live-call Challenges like a sports event—something you simply can’t script.
As of now, 10 hasn’t confirmed who will replace him in 2026. Rumors are pointing toward ‘Golden God’ David Genat. While he’s been a standout villain on the show, fans argue a host needs charm and warmth. After one season hosting Rush on Nine, Genat seems better suited for a player role. (Personally, former TV host Eden Gaha—who once produced US Survivor—would be a stronger choice.)
