Harvey Specter may not be big on apologies, but Gabriel Macht sees things differently.
The Suits actor shared that he often apologizes to fans—especially when they say the show inspired them to make a big life decision.
There are so many kids that have gone to law school because of the show, Because they think it’s fast-moving, there’s family, there’s loyalties, it’s cool, it’s slick. People are witty. There’s a lot of drama, all this kind of stuff.
Macht recently told PEOPLE.
While Suits shows a glamorous and fast-paced world full of drama, Gabriel Macht knows real-life law is very different. There aren’t as many dramatic twists or slow-burn romances. So, he only has one thing to say to fans who chose law school because of the show.
When people come up to me and they’re like, ‘I went to law school because of you,’ I always apologize profusely, I’m sorry. If you like to read, that is great — because you’re going to sit with a book for hours.

Suits first premiered in 2011, with Gabriel Macht playing Harvey Specter, a top lawyer who hires Mike Ross (Patrick J. Adams), a brilliant college dropout, at his high-profile law firm. The storyline itself is a clear warning not to follow the characters’ morally questionable choices. Mike and Harvey solve cases while bending the law and hiding the fact that Mike isn’t actually a Harvard-educated lawyer.
Although the show was popular during its original run, its fanbase grew massively in 2023 — four years after it ended. When it became available on Netflix, it broke streaming records, with U.S. viewers watching 57.7 billion minutes, according to Nielsen.
Gabriel Macht shared his thoughts on the dedication of Suits fans.
The thing about this show… it’s commitment, People have watched 134 episodes, which is our nine seasons. They’ve watched it multiple times. And so for me, that is fanatical a little bit.
he said
Anybody who’s watched it even once to me it’s like, ‘Oh wow, that’s cool. You were into it, great. You got a lot of time on your hands.’ But for the people that have watched it twice, and five times and 15 times… I met a guy who watched it 15 times. And I was like, ‘All right, well we’re going to take a picture together where you’re in that corner and I’m in this corner.’

The show’s sudden popularity gave creators the perfect chance to launch a spinoff called Suits LA. The new series stars Stephen Amell from Arrow as Ted Black, a former New York lawyer. This time, the story takes place in Los Angeles, where Ted starts a law firm focused on criminal and entertainment cases.

Fans of the original series will be happy to see some familiar faces in Suits LA. The new cast includes Josh McDermitt, Lex Scott Davis, Bryan Greenberg, and Victoria Justice. Gabriel Macht is also returning as a recurring guest star.
In Entertainment Weekly’s December cover story, creator Aaron Korsh teased that the premiere would reveal a “big hint” about Macht’s role. Stephen Amell explained further:
You’ll notice behind the desk that there’s a picture of a young Ted Black with what can only be a young Harvey Specter, so there’s clearly a history between the characters. We came up together in the D.A.’s office, I am very much a fan of his character and I think that that dynamic is something the viewers will really enjoy.

Korsh also clarified that while Suits LA brings back Macht and connects to the original series, it’s not meant to be “Suits season 10.” He shared his thoughts:
While at some point we might do a Suits movie and that could be fun, for the most part, I finished telling the story of those characters, But I wasn’t able to finish saying what I wanted to say about the Suits universe, so this is meeting a whole new group of characters and exploring their dynamics and their passions and their fears and their hopes and their dreams. It’s fun going back to the beginning of something again.
Korsh told EW.
