Suits LA introducing Stephen Amell as Ted Black. The show brings fans back to the world of the 2011 legal drama Suits, but this time, the story shifts from corporate battles to Los Angeles. Instead of big business clients, Suits LA focuses on Hollywood’s A-list stars. Ted Black and his best friend Stuart Lane, played by Josh McDermitt, run Black Lane, a law firm serving celebrity clients. With the premiere just around the corner, Amell has been sharing hints about his character.
Ted Black, a former prosecutor, moves from New York to Los Angeles and starts fighting to save his entertainment law firm as the series begins. Fans of the original Suits know how tough those New York lawyers were, and Ted fits right in. In an interview with TV Insider, Amell shares more about his character, saying,
He’s willing to go far, but he does like to stay within the parameters of the law, is maybe better able to compartmentalize the human element of things.

Lane and Black run the firm, while Lex Scott Davis as Erica Rollins and Bryan Greenberg as Rick Dodsen compete for the top spot in entertainment. Their rivalry looks intense, as shown in a recent trailer, and personal issues might mix with work. Amell hints, “This is the world of Suits and of interoffice drama and politics and romance.” While the office drama unfolds, Ted Black hides his true self.
Behind closed doors, there’s a version of Ted that he does not let anyone see, and that’s, for me personally, the most interesting part of the character.
Amell explains,
Aaron Korsh, the creator of Suits, returns for Suits LA. One smart move is bringing back Gabriel Macht as Harvey Specter. The show will reveal that Ted and Harvey share a past, and Harvey comes to Los Angeles to help his friend. Korsh told TV Insider that Ted’s legal troubles start because of his own choices, saying,
The imminent death of Ted’s father causes him to behave in a way that comes back to bite him in the ass and throws the trajectory of his present life into a different path.
Suits LA premieres on February 23 at 9 PM ET on NBC.
