Stranger Things has been a hot topic for over a year, especially as fans eagerly wait for Season 5. Season 4 came out in summer 2022, and while the final season was expected to release in 2025, that timeline might be hard to meet. At SDAC TVfest, Collider’s Steve Weintraub attended a panel where creators Ross and Matt Duffer shared updates. The Duffers confirmed work on visual effects has already begun.
We’re focused on visual effects sequences right now. We started back in January, so it’s going well. We’re actually ahead of schedule which is rare for us, so that’s great,

During the panel, the Duffer brothers confirmed that Stranger Things Season 5 will release in 2025. “It’s coming this year,” they announced, making the crowd burst into applause. While they didn’t give an exact date and reminded fans, “It’s still a long way away,” they assured everyone it wouldn’t be delayed until 2026.

Stranger Things isn’t your typical TV show. The last three episodes of Season 4 felt more like short movies. The finale ran for an impressive 2 hours and 22 minutes, one of the longest episodes ever. Fans can expect a similar format for Season 5.
In an interview, Finn Wolfhard shared that while some episodes will stick to the usual 45 to 50-minute length, others will feel more like small movies. Season 4 set the bar high, and fans can’t wait to see how the Duffer brothers will take it even further.

Stranger Things Season 5 will be set in 1987, about a year and a half after the events of Season 4. This time jump has sparked more discussion about the cast’s age differences from their characters. Many actors are now in their mid-20s but still play teenagers, which has become more noticeable as the show continues. Even the creators of Star Wars: Skeleton Crew mentioned this, saying they’d avoid the same mistake by considering time jumps and aging actors in future seasons.
Season 5 of Stranger Things is set to premiere before the end of 2025. You can catch all the episodes on Netflix.
