Steven Spielberg’s next big movie, rumored to be about UFOs, now has a new release date.
Deadline reports that Spielberg’s UFO film, reportedly titled The Dish, will now hit theaters on June 12, 2026, instead of its original May 15 release. It will share the same release date as the Scary Movie reboot, which was announced in 2024. He hasn’t revealed the plot yet, but filming is expected to start this month. David Koepp, who has worked with Spielberg on Jurassic Park and War of the Worlds, wrote the script. Their most recent project together was Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.
The Dish has a star-studded cast, including Josh O’Connor (Challengers), Emily Blunt (Oppenheimer), Colman Domingo (Sing Sing), Colin Firth (Kingsman: The Secret Service), Eve Hewson (Bridge of Spies), and Wyatt Russell (Overlord). The plot is still a mystery, but many believe the movie will focus on UFOs—something Spielberg knows well. He has explored the topic in some of his biggest films, like E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial and Close Encounters of the Third Kind. This will be Spielberg’s first film in four years, following The Fabelmans, which earned an Oscar nomination in 2022.

The Dish brings Spielberg back to a specific kind of sci-fi film, but he last explored the genre in 2018 with Ready Player One. This movie, based on Ernest Cline’s bestselling novel, was written by Cline and Zak Penn. The story follows Wade Watts, a young gamer searching for a hidden Easter Egg inside the virtual world of OASIS. Whoever finds it gains full control of the digital universe.

The film features Tye Sheridan, Olivia Cooke, Ben Mendelsohn, Lena Waithe, T.J. Miller, Simon Pegg, and Mark Rylance. It was a huge success, making $583 million worldwide and becoming the 12th highest-grossing movie of 2018.
Spielberg’s most recent film, The Fabelmans, received high praise and even an Oscar nomination. The movie is loosely based on his childhood and how he fell in love with filmmaking.
The cast includes Gabriel LaBelle, Michelle Williams, Paul Dano, Seth Rogen, and Judd Hirsch. Right now, The Fabelmans isn’t available on any streaming service, but you can rent or buy it on platforms like Fandango at Home, Prime Video, and Apple TV.
The Dish is set to hit theaters on June 12, 2026.
