George Nolfi, a well-known writer of movies like The Bourne Ultimatum and Ocean’s 12, has been hired to write the script for the upcoming Star Wars movie, New Jedi Order.
This film, focused on Daisy Ridley’s character Rey Skywalker, was first announced two years ago at the Star Wars Celebration in London. Despite early excitement, the project has faced multiple delays and changes in writers.

The story is set 15 years after The Rise of Skywalker (2019). In this new chapter, Rey Skywalker is a mentor, helping a new generation of Jedi grow. Previously, Damon Lindelof (Watchmen, Lost) and Justin Britt-Gibson were the scriptwriters but left before Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, the movie’s director, joined. Afterward, Steven Knight (Peaky Blinders) was brought on to write the script but also exited by late 2024.

These changes delayed the movie’s production, which had been planned to follow another Star Wars film called The Mandalorian and Grogu, set to release on May 22, 2026. Instead, Shawn Levy’s untitled Star Wars project will begin filming first, with Ryan Gosling reportedly in talks to star.
Nolfi’s career showcases his expertise in writing and directing compelling thrillers across different genres. He worked with Matt Damon on two Bourne movies and made his directorial debut with The Adjustment Bureau (2011), also starring Damon. His other works include The Banker (2020), a historical drama featuring Anthony Mackie and Samuel L. Jackson, and Elevation (2024), a post-apocalyptic indie thriller.

Director Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, known for her documentary filmmaking, is making her narrative movie debut with New Jedi Order. Fans are eager to see Daisy Ridley reprise her role as Rey in this exciting new Star Wars adventure.
