Dave Filoni, the Executive Vice President and Chief Creative Officer of Lucasfilm, shared some exciting news in a recent interview. He’s busy writing Ahsoka season 2 and described it as “a challenge.” Right now, the list of upcoming Star Wars TV shows is pretty short.
It includes Ahsoka season 2 and Andor season 2, as Star Wars: Skeleton Crew has already premiered its first two episodes. Details about the new season of Ahsoka are still a mystery, which makes Filoni’s update even more thrilling for fans.
In a YouTube video shared by ExtraTV, Dave Filoni shared his thoughts on Star Wars: Skeleton Crew, gave updates about The Mandalorian and Grogu, and talked about the progress of Ahsoka season 2. Regarding Ahsoka season 2, Filoni explained:
I’ve been writing it myself and enjoying the process, but it hasn’t been easy. Some of the story arcs are tricky to figure out, and I want to make sure everything comes together in a way that fans will find exciting. I know people are curious about how things from season 1 will play out, and so far, I feel good about it. But we’ll see how it all turns out.
Filoni is likely referring to the unanswered questions left by the ending of Ahsoka season 1. These include what happens to Ahsoka Tano and Sabine Wren on Peridea, the danger posed by Grand Admiral Thrawn, and Baylan Skoll’s mysterious search for the Mortis Gods.
Dave Filoni’s comments about the challenges of Ahsoka season 2 hint at how much the new season needs to address. Ahsoka is now stuck on Peridea with her Jedi apprentice, Sabine Wren, after they swapped places with Grand Admiral Thrawn and Ezra Bridger. This leaves Thrawn as a serious threat to the galaxy, as he seems determined to rebuild the Empire and unite its supporters and remnants.

Ahsoka season 1 brought back Hayden Christensen as Anakin Skywalker, showing him and Ahsoka meeting in the World Between Worlds and later appearing as a Force ghost at the very end. This raises the possibility that Anakin could play a bigger role in season 2, especially since Force ghosts have shown a lot of freedom and influence in recent stories. Adding to the mystery, Baylan Skoll seems to be searching for the Mortis Gods. All of this gives Filoni a huge challenge as he works on the next season.

Writing Ahsoka season 2 is definitely a tough job for Filoni, but it also gives him a lot of exciting possibilities. Since the show is set before the sequel trilogy, there’s plenty of freedom to explore new stories. Ahsoka’s future in the Star Wars universe is still a mystery, as are the fates of Sabine and Ezra. Even Anakin Skywalker’s role as a Force ghost hasn’t been fully explained yet, leaving room for the story to go in unexpected directions.
Filoni has both the freedom and the authority to decide how the Mortis Gods will fit into the Star Wars story going forward. With so many pieces in play and few obstacles in the way, the future of this Star Wars show looks very exciting. Filoni’s comments hint that Ahsoka season 2 will bring big updates to the major storylines from season 1, and work on it is already in full swing.
