Nearly two years after the Star Trek: Strange New Worlds Season 2 finale aired on Paramount+, fans are eagerly awaiting news on Season 3’s premiere. The second season wrapped up in August 2023, but Paramount+ has yet to announce an official release date for the next installment.
According to Trek Central, filming for Season 4 is already underway, with production starting on March 3 and expected to continue through late July. Pre-production began in January, following the show’s renewal in April 2024.
The official Star Trek Instagram account also confirmed that Season 4 is in production. On March 3, they shared a photo of stars Anson Mount, Ethan Peck, and Celia Rose Gooding, captioned:
Production on season four of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds is officially underway!

There haven’t been many updates on Strange New Worlds Season 3 since October 2024, when a three-minute clip from the premiere episode was shown at New York Comic-Con. At the event, it was also revealed that Our Flag Means Death star Rhys Darby would make a guest appearance during the season.
During a panel at the convention, co-showrunner Henry Alonzo Myers shared details about Darby’s role, stating he will play “a character that will be familiar yet completely new to folks that know Star Trek.” Myers added, “If you know Star Trek, you will have a lot of fun with him, and we had more fun than I could possibly imagine with him.”
When it comes to what fans can expect in Season 3, Strange New Worlds composer Nami Melumad teased that “surprises” are in store. However, she clarified that there won’t be another musical episode like Season 2’s Subspace Rhapsody, where an anomaly forced the Enterprise crew to express their deepest emotions through song.
There’s not another musical episode, but it’s a favorite season, I have a very high bar for Star Trek, and I really enjoyed it. There are very different genres there. There will be surprises. It’s not a musical, but there are surprises. Musically, it was also very challenging. Sometimes, we used a different ensemble, so maybe that’s a hint for what’s coming,
Melumad told Screen Rant
Another Star Trek series from Paramount+, Star Trek: Starfleet Academy, completed filming its first season at Toronto’s Star Trek Stage in February, according to Collider. Per IMDb, the series is set to debut in 2026 and will follow the lives of cadets at the Academy. The cast includes Holly Hunter, Paul Giamatti, Tatiana Maslany, Oded Fehr, Robert Picardo, Tig Notaro, and Mary Wiseman.
In the meantime, fans can revisit the first two seasons of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds on Paramount+, featuring Anson Mount, Ethan Peck, Rebecca Romijn, Celia Rose Gooding, Melissa Navia, Jess Bush, Babs Olusanmokun, and Christina Chong.
