For example, I’ll be filming season four of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds in February, and everyone knows that. I’ve planned for it, and I’m committed to being there. Ian will handle some of my responsibilities, and I have other team members to help out too.
The actor also shared that keeping his acting career is still a big part of his life, saying:
I need to act and find new characters. That’s what makes me happy. I’ve been doing this since I was a kid, starting with theater in third grade, and I feel like I have to keep going. Plus, it helps the business. If I’m successful, the company does well too because more people are watching me.
What This Means For Star Trek’s Future
The Star Trek franchise is going through big changes right now, with many of its shows either ending or about to finish. Discovery ended after five seasons in May, Picard wrapped up in 2023, Prodigy came to a close in July, and Lower Decks will end this fall.
This leaves Star Trek: Strange New Worlds as the only series continuing after 2024, with season 3 expected in 2025. Wesley’s remarks highlight the show’s future, as season 4 puts it on course to match Discovery and Prodigy as one of the longest-running new Trek shows.

The next chapter of Star Trek is already starting. After the events of Star Trek: Discovery, the new show Starfleet Academy will follow a new group of heroes learning at the famous school, preparing for their adventures.
Star Trek movies are also coming back with a Michelle Yeoh-led Section 31 movie on Paramount+. Section 31 builds on a story from Discovery. So, with Starfleet Academy, Section 31, and Strange New Worlds, it looks like Star Trek’s future is tied to its first streaming series.
Even though Star Trek is slowing down on TV, the franchise, led by Alex Kurtzman, will still keep its streak of yearly releases going since Discovery started in 2017. Strange New Worlds season 3 is set to air in 2025, and Section 31 is expected to come out later that same year. This means fans won’t have any years without new Star Trek shows to watch.

There’s no word yet on whether season 4 will end Pike’s story, so it seems likely that Strange New Worlds could continue into a possible fifth season or more, even though the original series already reveals Pike’s fate.
With the show’s usual filming schedule and Wesley confirming season 4 will start shooting in early 2025, Star Trek: Strange New Worlds should keep Star Trek on TV until the new shows have time to get going.
