Netflix is enjoying huge success with its popular series Squid Game. After the much-awaited second season premiered, the show has achieved a major milestone for the streaming service.
On Tuesday, Netflix shared that Squid Game remains at the top of its weekly Top 10 list, racking up 26.3 million views in just one week. Since the season’s release on December 26, it has reached an impressive total of 152.5 million views. This makes Season 2 the third most-watched season in Netflix history, joining the first season of Squid Game and Jenna Ortega’s Wednesday in the platform’s Top 3.
Squid Game continues to grow its success in other areas too. Season 1 climbed to No. 3 on Netflix’s Non-English TV charts this week, earning 8.7 million views. This might be because fans are rewatching the first season to get ready for Season 2 or revisiting older episodes after finishing the new ones.
At the same time, the game Squid Game: Unleashed has taken the No. 1 spot on the App Store charts in 107 countries, showing just how much people are loving the series in different ways.
Squid Game is one of Netflix’s biggest hits ever, but it won’t run as a TV series for much longer. The third season, which has already been announced, will be the show’s last. However, this decision isn’t because the quality or popularity of the show has gone down.
Creator Hwang Dong-hyuk shared that the story feels complete after three seasons. Still, he hinted that Netflix has a “plan” to expand the Squid Game universe, suggesting there could be spinoffs that explore more about the show’s world.
Maybe I’ll be involved in those future projects as an advisor or co-creator. Who knows? Season 3 won’t be the end of the Squid Game universe.
Hwang said in an interview with The Wrap, He also assured fans,
Hwang hinted that he agreed to make two more seasons because of the financial offer, saying,
It definitely got better. That’s why I went for it. I was happy about it. That’s all I can say—I got more money.
