Jeff Fowler applauds Keanu Reeves for his role as Shadow in a recent interview.
Sonic the Hedgehog 3 director Jeff Fowler has praised Keanu Reeves, who plays Shadow the Hedgehog, before the movie’s release.

He thinks the character is awesome and really understood what we wanted to do. He was excited to put his own spin on it. Like the rest of the cast, he truly wants to get it right and really cares about the role.
Fowler highlighted Reeves’ commitment to the role, both in the recording booth and outside of it, as a major reason why he believes fans will “love” his portrayal of Shadow.
He gave us many different ways to say the lines and wanted to keep trying, It wasn’t just about showing up and reading the script into a microphone.
Fowler said
He really aimed to create a version of the character that fans would love. He did his research, and in our first meeting, it was clear he had prepared, which was great. I can’t say enough good things about Keanu and what he brought to the character and the filmmaking experience. I think people are really going to love his version of Shadow.
While it’s fun to imagine Keanu Reeves playing through Shadow’s first appearance in 2001’s Sonic Adventure 2, we believe the John Wick actor probably went through lots of notes and other materials before deciding on his version of the Ultimate Lifeform.

In an interview with GamesRadar+ earlier this year, Sonic 3 producer Toby Ascher called the upcoming release “probably the most exciting thing we’ve done in this franchise.”
It’s going to be a huge, fun, and amazing movie that clearly takes inspiration from Sonic Adventure 2 and some of the games that the core Sonic Team grew up loving.
He added
Sonic 3, featuring Keanu Reeves as Shadow, also stars Ben Schwartz, Jim Carrey, Idris Elba, James Marsden, and Colleen O’Shaughnessey. The movie is set to race into theaters on December 20.
