Naomi Scott plays a troubled pop star in the new horror sequel, now available.
You might see more Smile movies soon! Writer-director Parker Finn is already thinking about ideas for possible sequels in the horror series.
The second movie, with Naomi Scott as a troubled pop star facing creepy smiling demons, hit theaters on Oct. 18. Two years after the first film, starring Sosie Bacon, became a surprise hit in 2022. Parker Finn told The Hollywood Reporter at the sequel’s Los Angeles premiere on Oct. 14, “There are so many exciting directions Smile could take.”
We’ll have to wait and see how people respond to Smile 2, but what’s great about Smile is the chance to tell different stories. We can explore new worlds, and then Smile comes in and takes over.
Finn added
The director also told GamesRadar+, “If we’re lucky and audiences connect with Smile 2 at the box office, then I believe there’s no limit” to future sequels.

Finn is already working on his next project outside of the Smile series. Reports from June said he’s in the early stages of writing and directing a remake of the 1981 horror movie Possession, with Robert Pattinson as a producer.

In the Wild Second Smile movie, more of the franchise’s story is revealed, with Kyle Gallner’s character from the first film making a brief appearance to help move the plot forward.
As Finn told Den of Geek magazine, they wanted to “make sure we were creating a sequel that felt truly worth it” and something “unique and its own thing.”
In the first movie, there’s a lot of mystery, and the audience learns everything along with the character. In the second movie, the audience knows more than the character does. I wanted to use that to surprise the audience and pull them in.
he explained

I love the idea that halfway through the movie, the audience might start to think, ‘Oh, wow, wait. Am I the evil one? Am I causing trouble for the character?’
He added
In September, Finn told SFX magazine that he imagines each new movie getting even crazier than the one before.
I have some ideas that I find really exciting. It’s fun to think about a series of Smile movies where each one gets crazier than the last. What’s interesting about Smile is that you can explore different stories, characters, and worlds.
He said,
Smile 2 is now playing in theaters.
