Star Wars: Skeleton Crew is the newest story in the Star Wars universe. It happens nine years after the fall of the Galactic Empire. On their home planet, At Attin, four kids stumble upon something unexpected and end up lost in the galaxy. While trying to find their way back, they meet a Force user and go on an exciting adventure together.
Jude Law plays Jod Na Nawood, a friendly Force-user who helps the kids on their adventure. The group of kids includes Wim, a human boy; Fern, a human girl; KB, Fern’s friend who wears a cybernetic visor; Neel, an alien boy who looks like an elephant; and SM-33, a worn-out droid who works as the first mate on their ship, Onyx Cinder.
The show has received positive reviews and is seen as one of the most enjoyable Star Wars stories in recent times, especially after the disappointing reactions to The Acolyte.

Even though the show is good, it didn’t seem to stick with most Star Wars fans. According to Nielsen’s streaming data, its debut wasn’t very strong. In its first week, the show had the lowest viewership of any Star Wars series, with less than 382 million minutes watched for its first two episodes combined.
Episode 1 was 46 minutes long, but Episode 2 was only 29 minutes, showing a big drop in length. The show’s performance was about 20% worse than The Acolyte. Because of this, Skeleton Crew didn’t make it into Disney+’s Top 10 Originals, which is the first time this has happened for a Star Wars series.

The premiere also had much fewer viewers compared to other Star Wars shows on Disney+. For example, premieres like The Mandalorian Season 2 and Obi-Wan Kenobi had over 1 billion minutes watched. Even shows like The Acolyte and The Book of Boba Fett had smaller but still impressive numbers.

- ‘The Mandalorian’ Season 2: 1.032 billion minutes
- ‘The Book of Boba Fett:’ 389 million minutes
- ‘Obi-Wan Kenobi’: 1.026 billion minutes
- ‘Andor’: 624 million minutes
- ‘The Mandalorian’ Season 3: 823 million minutes
- ‘Ahsoka’: 829 million minutes
- ‘The Acolyte’: 488 million minutes
This is another sign that Star Wars is having trouble getting a big audience and might need to make some changes. It’s sad for the show, though, because it truly brought something fresh to the table, even if it was mainly made for kids.
You can watch Episode 8 of Skeleton Crew on Tuesday, January 14.
