Silo Seasons 3 and 4 are being filmed consecutively, and production is progressing as planned for the expected release dates. One of the main creatives also hinted that Season 3 will be more visually appealing, suggesting a big shift from the show’s dark look.
Silo Season 3 has wrapped up filming, and work on Season 4 is underway. In a talk with ScreenRant, Season 2’s cinematographer Baz Irvine also hinted that the final two seasons will have a different visual style.
I think Silo is a great example of a show where it probably does actually benefit [to have] a new set of eyes and a new DOP come in, just to mark the difference and variation you need from season to season to make a show progress. It was such an incredibly long stint, Season 2… so I came in 12 weeks early to do prep. I also had to contend with COVID, the actors’ strike, [and] the writers’ strike. And what happened was, what would’ve been like about a nine-month commitment – which was already a really long commitment – ended up being 15 months… A lot of that time is spent in subterranean sets, going slightly crazy due to lack of sunlight. I think I had the scurvy, or one of the old-fashioned diseases.
he explained. Irvine was Season 2’s lead director of photography, but exited the project due to health concerns.
While Irvine’s situation can’t be changed, he did mention one of the show’s biggest creative struggles: filming the scenes set indoors. Fans said Season 2 looked too dark, visually; some even found it hard to watch, while others got by by changing their screen settings.

Series creator Graham Yost has responded to the complaints in an earlier interview, telling viewers to just “crank up the brightness.” Hopefully, the lighting gets better in Season 3, especially since the show still hasn’t fixed Silo 17’s power problem from Season 2.
People who have read the books are excited about Silo’s major reveal, and Yost said it will be just as stunning in the show. He also confirmed earlier that Season 3 would include scenes outside, and there would be real sunshine.
Something that [Executive Producer] Fred Golan said was, ‘Let’s make every effort to make the world that we see outside beautiful, so that we’re reminded of what’s been lost’.
he told TV Line
It looked like all hope was gone in the Season 2 finale, as Juliette went back to Silo 18 and told everyone not to go outside. The episode also ends with a flashback showing what led to the disaster, a global conflict that turned into nuclear war. Season 3 might explore this more with extra flashbacks, before Season 4 finally uncovers the truth about the world outside the Silo.
Silo Seasons 1 and 2 are available to stream on Apple TV+.
