Sigourney Weaver recently shared details about her role in the upcoming Star Wars movie The Mandalorian & Grogu. Weaver is a Hollywood legend known for starring in iconic films like Alien, Ghostbusters, and Avatar. She has also earned Oscar nominations for movies like Gorillas in the Mist and Working Girl.
From Galaxy Quest to Cabin in the Woods and even Finding Dory, she’s taken on a variety of roles. However, this will be her first time stepping into the Star Wars universe, and fans are excited to see her join this epic galaxy. While promoting her new movie The Gorge, Weaver spoke to GamesRadar about her character.
I play a wonderful character who is, you know, in a position of authority, And I have to send the Mandalorian out on a mission on the Outer Rim where all the bad stuff happens.
she shared.

Reports suggest that she might be playing Colonel Bishop, a member of the New Republic, but Lucasfilm hasn’t confirmed this yet. Weaver also teased that Grogu will be more skilled than the last time fans saw him, giving viewers something exciting to look forward to. She said:
I get to have scenes with a little Grogu which is probably why I did the movie, and he’s a little badass too. It’s going to be wonderful for people to see what Grogu is up to now because he’s grown up a little bit and is capable of much more than maybe we think just watching the series.
The Mandalorian & Grogu will bring back Pedro Pascal as Din Djarin from the Disney+ series The Mandalorian. Sigourney Weaver will also join the cast, along with Jonny Coyne, who plays an Imperial Warlord likely connected to the Shadow Council introduced in Season 3 of The Mandalorian.
One of the biggest surprises is the casting of Jeremy Allen White, star of The Bear. He will take on the role of Rotta the Hutt, Jabba the Hutt’s son, who first appeared as a baby in the 2008 animated film Star Wars: The Clone Wars.

Weaver’s description suggests that her character holds a high-ranking position within the New Republic. This makes sense since Season 3 of The Mandalorian showed Din Djarin settling down on Nevarro and starting to work for the New Republic.
While Weaver might seem like an ally, she could also have a darker side. In movies like Paul and Cabin in the Woods, she played characters who led secretive and shady organizations. There’s a chance her character might secretly support the Empire, a storyline hinted at in Ahsoka and one that plays a key role in the rise of the First Order in the sequel trilogy.
Weaver might appear as a one-time character in the upcoming movie, but there’s a chance she could become a regular in the Star Wars franchise. The Mandalorian & Grogu is expected to set up a major crossover movie, bringing together storylines from The Book of Boba Fett, Ahsoka, Skeleton Crew, and The Mandalorian.
Fans will likely get more details, including the name of Weaver’s character, at the Star Wars Celebration event in Japan from April 18 to April 20, 2025. The movie is set to release on May 22, 2026, marking the first Star Wars film since The Rise of Skywalker in December 2019. Having a big sci-fi star like Weaver onboard shows just how important this movie is for Star Wars’ future.
