Season 2 of Shrinking took a much darker turn. This season brought a lot of heartbreak for Jason Segel’s character, Jimmy Laird, and might mark the middle point of the series. The show, created by Bill Lawrence, Jason Segel, and Brett Goldstein, seems to have a planned ending in sight. Nearly a week after the Season 2 finale aired, co-creator Lawrence shared that they might wrap up the popular Apple TV+ comedy with the third season.
In Season 2, viewers met Louis (played by Brett Goldstein), the man behind Tia’s (Lilan Bowden) death. This event deeply affected Jimmy (Jason Segel) and his daughter Alice (Lukita Maxwell), changing their lives forever. In a recent chat with the Los Angeles Times, co-creator Bill Lawrence talked about the chances of the third season wrapping up Jimmy Laird’s story.
I think that this story is over in three seasons, If we started a fourth season with Jason Segel still saying, ‘I’m so sad about my wife’s death, and I’ve messed up with my daughter,’ people would be like [makes a pained face].

While there’s talk about ending the story with Season 3, plans for a possible Season 4 are also in the works. Bill Lawrence confirmed that the upcoming third season will drop hints, or Easter eggs, about that potential storyline. He shared this during his recent interview:
We’re already working on Season 3 in the writers’ room, and we’re adding little hints, or Easter eggs, about the story that could start in Season 4, One great thing about streaming is that we can create a three-season story with a clear beginning, middle, and end. If people really enjoy these characters, there are still plenty of stories we can explore.

Aside from his work on Shrinking, Bill Lawrence is also known as one of the creators of the hit comedy Ted Lasso. In a recent chat with Collider’s Christina Radish, Lawrence was asked how serious the discussions about a fourth season of Ted Lasso are. He responded:
With Ted Lasso, I always make sure to credit Jason Sudeikis because the show was his vision, Looking back, I’m so proud to have been part of shaping and figuring out what the show became. Jason and I ran it together in the first season, worked on it together in the second, and by the third season, he was fully leading the charge. In the streaming world, you can always create new stories with fresh characters, and Jason is steering this one creatively. I’m just thrilled to still be involved, even in a small way.
