The Apple TV+ series “Severance” has become a significant television success. Since the launch of its second season on January 17, the show has amassed approximately 3.055 billion streaming minutes, as reported by Nielsen.
This figure represents the sum of weekly viewership across the five weeks that new episodes of Season 2 aired. Since “Severance” only began appearing on Nielsen’s weekly rankings of the most-streamed shows and movies after its return, there is a possibility that the total number of viewers is even higher. However, at present, Nielsen’s weekly numbers offer the most reliable data.
The highest viewership week for “Severance” occurred between February 10 and 16, coinciding with the release of Episode 5, which garnered 681 million streaming minutes. The only other instance where the series surpassed the 600 million-minute mark was during the week of January 20, when Episode 2 premiered, reaching 662 million minutes. Viewership figures mostly ranged in the 500 million-minute bracket during the remaining reported weeks.

According to the audience measurement company, during the week of February 10, 60% of the viewing time for “Severance” was dedicated to Season 2, while 40% went to Season 1. This indicates that audiences are either revisiting the series or experiencing it for the first time.
“Severance” secured the No. 5 spot on Nielsen’s Top 10 Streaming Originals list for that week, surpassing Netflix’s “The Recruit” and “Apple Cider Vinegar,” Hulu’s “Paradise,” Prime Video’s “Invincible,” and Netflix’s German thriller “Cassandra.” Since the launch of Season 2, the show has consistently ranked between fourth and fifth place on this specific chart.

The suspenseful thriller has not broken into Nielsen’s Top 10 Streaming Overall list, where the most dominant television titles usually appear. However, given how rarely Apple TV+ shows appear on Nielsen’s rankings, the sustained presence of “Severance” is noteworthy.
The exact number of viewers for the eerie dystopian series will likely remain unknown. Apple TV+ is notoriously secretive about its streaming metrics, even more so than other platforms. However, these Nielsen statistics confirm what many TV enthusiasts may have already suspected: “Severance” is undeniably having its moment.
